Using DFS in JDK 1.4.2

Hi everyone,

I've scoured previous posts and the Internet in looking for firm answers for this one but alas to no avail.

How can I generate the DFS WSDL-based client stubs so that they will work within a JVM at version 1.4.2? I need to integrate with Documentum in a legacy application.

I've tried all versions of Axis2, I've tried various javac command options etc but I still get stuck on the fact that the source generated by WSDl2Java in Axis2 uses features not available in 1.4.2 compilers and thus will refuse to compile.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check in th release notes bit I don't think 1.4 is supported for DFS development.

Maybe you could try recompiling your legacy app with a newer java version ?

Hi,

I've been consuming DFS services with Axis 1.4, which runs well on 1.4.2 JDK versions. No problem, just use WSDL2Java (you will have to correct some of the generated classes, but your IDE will complain about which classes it cannot compile).

Thank you. I had tried to use Axis 1.4 but you are right, the generated client stubs would not compile under Java 1.4.2! It turns out by going back to Axis 1.2.1 it generated client stubs that did compile under Java 1.4.2 and I was able to use them to store and retrieve documents using Documentum.

I had to modify the SOAP header to insert the security token after registering the client though.

Please tell me... is it possible to write an unregistered client using Axis v1? I could not work out how!

Thank you, you are a champion! This is the final code I used, all works flawlessly now:

        RepositoryIdentity identity = new RepositoryIdentity();
        identity.setUserName(user);
        identity.setPassword(password);
        identity.setRepositoryName(repository);
        ServiceContext serviceContext = new ServiceContext();
        Identity[] identities = new Identity[1];
        identities[0] = identity;
        serviceContext.setIdentities(identities);
        
        javax.xml.namespace.QName qname = new javax.xml.namespace.QName("http://context.core.datamodel.fs.documentum.emc.com/", "ServiceContext");
