setting variable duration for post timer

on the timers tab of activity definition there is a fields - how many hours and minutes you want to workitem be executed

i need to set a variable - for example today + 3 days.
what shoud i do ?

at whole, i need to set up an execution period for the manual activity.

when you set the timer I think it actually starts counting from the current time only

as if u give there 3 hours it will start sending notifications only after 3 hours of time when work item was acquired

so in your case if u wanty to restrict the duration of activity u can just put the time over there.

Do you want timer to fire

a.) 3 hours after the actvity is created?

b.) 3 hours after the workflow or some other previous activity is created?

i need to set an execution period based on user input value

i meen, when process starts - on the init form the user input registration date of document, and in the middle of process there is an manual activity , and i need to set an expiration period - the user input reg date plus 3 days.

The only way to support your requirement would be by writing custom code :

a.) Create manual activity (activity1) , create a timer that expires in few days

b.) Create a parallel automatic activity (activity2) with custom method

c.) In this custom method do following

i) Get the timer object id of the timer associated with activity1, following query from be used to get the timer

dmi_wf_timer where r_workflow_id = ‘<wflow id>’ and r_act_name = ‘<act name>’ and r_timer_name = ‘<timer name>’

ii) Use IDfWorkfowEx api to update the due date of the timer

IDfWorkflowEx.updateTimer(IDfId timerObjId, IDfTime newDueDate)
