Using Word documents with Documentum<-->SAP

In various places in the CS-SAP / AS-SAP documentation (6.5 sp2) the following is stated:l

* Documentum supports the following SAP document classes/formats:
    • Incoming or scanned documents (FAX class, TIFF format)
    • Outgoing documents (OTF class, PDF format)
    • Archived data (REO class, REO format)
    • Reports or print lists (ALF class, ALF format)

I want to exchange/link Word documents between SAP and Documentum. Does this mean that that is not possible.

I don't know why does the documentation state this, we have more references where we implemented such a solution.

- Link .doc from Documentum -> SAP (CS-SAP)

- View .doc archived object from SAP which is in Documentum (AS-SAP)

- Archive (store) .doc from SAP into Documentum (AS-SAP)

did you found any solution for your requirement - apart from ASSAP / CSSAP.

using SAP PI / JCO etc..

Of course you can solve the link functionality with a custom developmnet (using SAP JCo), but for the other parts you would need to write an ArchiveLink compliant servlet - what the ASSAP does.

Hello Miklos - thank you for response.

Can you provide more details - consider I have following need - Please share some knowledge - I am new to SAP and Documentum Integration.

a. 1 way communication - from SAP to Documentum - Immediate reflection of data along with SAP Characteristics ?

b. 2 way communication - from SAP to Documentum and viceversa - Immediate reflection not a JOB based ?

Have you tried PSSAP -webservices. ? can help here ?

Hi,

The metadata synchronization between SAP and Documentum by CS4SAP is job based, thus it cannot be immediate. If this is a hard requirement, then you will definately need custom development from both sides.

You mean PSSAP by Process Service for SAP? The activities which can be included in a BPM/Workflow? It is kind of "synchronous", but you need to be Workflow centric then, but of course it can help. I am not aware of its full functionality, what you can and what you cannot do with it.

Thank you Miklos - I need CS4SAP to work immediate - thinking very funny but just sharing if you/someone can throw some pointer - I do not have bulk data changes - consider I have content change in Documentum - invoke methods using DFC from TBO (any change in content from Documentum users) which is used by CSSAP JOB - just a thought that is Ok ? advantage it is not schedule base and content change is immediately getting reflected to SAP system.

also - PSSAP can be invoked without Process I believe - i am still finding way to do it - invoking web services - from SAP.

on ASSAP - I am finding way to pass metadata - consider If I have only requirement to 1 way communication - I will need only ASSAP + SAP characteristics to be passed from SAP to Documentum.
