Web CMS (TeamSite)
Teamsite 6 - worth it ?
System
Hi
we have been having ongoing problems with Teamsite V5. interface is bad, open deploy has problems, users find it confusing etc etc
We are now at a point of having to upgrade - but as a Developer and manager of a team that deals with angry Teamsite users every day I wonder if moving to V6 will be any better.
Has anybody converted to V6 ? Is it worth the move ?
Your thoughts please
thanks
regards
Peter

Hi Peter
take my word for it - it's way better now. Give me a buzz if you need to have a chat about it, I witnessed a number of upgrades by now, we have a very positive user experience.
OpenDeploy is a different product, as you know, but it also got improved heaps.

It all depends on what your users are complaining about ...
The underlying basics of TeamSite haven't changed that much since 5.x - but the UIs have.
Do you already have TS 6 installed [in a DEV environment]?
Have you looked at any of the webcasts regarding TeamSite 6 on this site (devnet)? If not - you probably should - and then perhaps you'll either be able to answer your own questions / concerns or at least have more specific questions / concerns to ask here.

TS 5.5 is being EOL'ed (end of life) this year. To save on your CMS investment it makes sense to upgrade to TS 6; Your current problems are probably specific to your customizations since there are many 'wildly-happy' TS users.

Uhm - unless I missed an announcement - it
was
EOL'ed as far as support is concerned as of the most recent July 1st
However - the original question, to me, sounded like they wanted to know whether to upgrade or dump the product all together...

the change to the VFE (if you use it) is reason enough to upgrade imo

We went from 5.5.2 to 6.5, the users like it a lot.
It was not trivial since we have some GUI customizations, but it was worth it.
With 5.5.2 being EOL, you really need to move.

Regarding support for 5.5:
'normal' support for 5.5 is EOL'ed june 30.. but some cases are still supported till end of year.

I'd also revisit *how* things have been implemented.
TeamSite is a big tool and sometimes the choices made for implementation/process may be more of an issue than the product limitations itself.

Hi
thanks to everbody that replied. Here's hoping that TS6 makes life easier. I'll take a look at those webcasts mentioned in previous posts.
