Documentum Workflow

I work for the US EPA, Office of Pesticide Programs. We have a growing collection of documents stored in Documentum (currently verging on 350,000 docs with a need to expand to several million documents), but I know we are not using the tool to its fullest extent. We have an old client-server application we use for tracking pesticide product applications and other similar, related documents. We have a strong need to replace this client-server application with a new workflow tool that would provide us with similar capabilities to our client-server app. Is Documentum's Workflow flexible enough to replace this old application? From what I've seen to-date, Documentum is rather inflexible and is complicated use to develop new applications. We are trying to make a decision about whether to even continue using Documentum or if we should start storing our documents in Oracle as BLOBs or store them on the O/S as PDF images, etc.

Can someone direct me to solutions using Documentum's Workflow to track widgets of various forms in assorted ways?

I suggest that you take a look at the new platform for creating applications on the Documentum platform we call the xCelerated Composition Platform, or xCP for short. There's a available here on the Developer Network that describe this approach for leveraging Documentum for agile application construction and ongoing change. Workflow is a critical component of xCP enabling not only the routing of documents, but in the form of Business Process Management automating operations and integrations across the application.

Do you know of any Federal Government organizations or private corporations in the Washington DC area who are using this technology who might be willing to provide a demonstration of their platform so I can see the product in use?

Your best routes for this are to attend the local user's group meeting and contact your EMC account representative. We have a number of customers in your area who I am sure would be happy to share their xCP experience with you. how does your "client-server" tool handle the workflow today? When i think of "client-server", i think of a document import or retrieval method.
