Removing value from field populated by callout

hi, I have a teamSite form that has a location text box that can only be populated using the callout box (get_locations.cgi). Users select a location listed in this box and it gets placed in the text box. However, because of this the user cannot just delete the entry later on and there is no 'none' value in the callout box. Can anyone please suggest how I could implement a 'clear' button for this field?

can't you simply put a button in your callout window that would do it?

i was hoping there would be a solution so that i could have a button next to the field that would clear it...

Ok, so put a button next to the field with a label of 'Clear'. When the user clicks the button, have an onCallout event that clears the field. This is pretty simple formapi stuff, read up on it in the manuals.

yeah.. my point was that I personally would not want to have 2 buttons one after another after a text field.. Smiley Wink

i read about the onCallout function provided in the free manual I have but it doesnt go into much detail at all. Could anyone please point me to a manual available online (without registration) or just post the function call and function to clear the field? i would really be grateful for this.

Option 1:
Make the text field editable to the use so that the user can delete the value.

Option 2:
Modify the get_locations.cgi to have empty text "" as an option so when the user selects it its updated with empty string.

I am interpreting this as you have a multi select combo-box or a single select dropdown box on your CGI callout form and the value selected gets placed in your DCT parent form

And if you don't have an option item with null value in the your select in your CGI callout, it would be relatively easy to just add one in the CGI

You could also have a clear button on your CGI callout form which you could hook up to any function call then have this function call do what you require.

Now, if you want the clear button on the DCT parent form then,
1. Use another CGI callout for that button
2. Then using formapi set the value of the required field to null.

Changing the value of an item is fairly simple with formapi, simply call .setValue() on your item object. This is about as simple as formapi gets though, so if you are struggling with this, I would strongly urge you to read the manuals and/or take some training.

Why do you not have any manuals?

Do you, or someone in your organization, have access to the Support site? If so - you should download the PDFs of the manuals from there. It is ridiculous to try developing customizations for a product without having access to the manuals for doing so.

In addition to the manuals - you should probably consider getting some Interwoven training too. Yeah, it's time & money - but if you're going to be responsible for this kind of work...
