How to assign value to a hidden field in dct?

let let say i have an item <item name="language">. it is hidden and i want assign value equals to 200

It's just like any other field. How would you assign a value to a text field? It's the same thing.

Current Environments:
(1) TS 6.5 on W2K3 (x2 - diff. imp.)
(3) Vignette V7 Portal on Solaris 9

It is possible through FormAPI. Without FormAPI, it's still the same method as you would with anything else. This way, it's just <input type="hidden" name="language" value="200"/>, for instance. If you want to assign it dynamically, that's when you would use FormAPI.

that will work as long as you want it hard coded and it will not change, or you are reading that
value from somewhere else (i.e. Oracle)

Unless something changed - or the DTD is wrong (wouldn't be the first time - but it's usually better than the printed docs) - the hidden element does not allow for a default sub-element. You might be able to do something like:<item name="language">
<hidden/>
<text><default>en</default></text>
</item>

I am using 5.0 DTD on a 6.5 DCT. What I mentioned to rodigz is exactly how it's functional for me.

Interesting - neither the 5.0 nor 6.0 DTDs for the DCT indicate that you can place a default value within a hidden item (I remember this being an issue for a long time - I guess the software finally got fixed to allow it but the DTD never did).

Anyone care to open up a bug report on this? Lissa?
