handling unlocks
w18111
I am sure everybody runs into this issue, where some users, open files for editing and leave on vacation, etc. and the need arises for getting the file unlocked by IW admins or masters.
What options are there for giving some selective editors unlock priveleges, so that folks dont need to wait for IT to help out on minor tasks.
I know we could potential write a script and add it into the custom menus, etc. or protect it in some other ways, but is there a simpler option/workaround?
(yes I know this would go against the the whole locking principles, but this would be done with the right checks and balances)

Hey
Hope your project is going well.
What you raise is more of a political issue than a techical one. Custom menu item is the most common, but that also leaves many open issues. One of htemain is what if the said file was in a WF, waiting for approval. Not many good things can come of unlocking then.
I spent many a time responding to trouble tickets by unlocking files. That is probably the most common approach.
If you do write a script, verify the file is not part of a WF, or you will see more unintended issues
Good luck

The big stick works quite well - takes some time to sink in, but works in the end.
You just need to hammer the "...and before you log off when your done or at the end of the day run a List Locks and unlock anything you don't need.".
Follow this up by a name and shame to their boss for repeat offenders and slowly it tends to sink in.
