HTML generation from workflow

Hi,

I'm trying to generate HTML from workflow. I'm calling an IPL file from workflow for this. But i guess there some problem in IPL file.

It's showing the output Start Generating but others LOG are not getting printed... can you please tell me what could be the reason.

I'm using TeamSite 6.5

Well, the obvious reason would be that you are not getting a list of files.

Have you verfied that there are actually files in @files? Try logging the contents of @files before your foreach.

How to check whether we have files loaded or not... can we put these files into LOG.. I tried that but it was giving compilation error ...

You could do:

print LOG join("\n",@files);

To print out the list of files.

You could also do:

print LOG "Number of files: $#files\n";

Which will give you the number of files minus 1. So if the log says -1, that means there are no files in @files. If it says 0, there is 1 file. If it says 1, there are 2 files, etc.

Yeah, but I'm strongly against using @arrayName as a scalar, I always use $#arrayName. I guess I just think it reads easier and is less confusing to people reading the code. I don't like variables that are referenced the same way, yet mean different things depending on the context. I'll avoid doing this in my code whenever possible.

To each their own - I'd rather use: scalar(@arrayName) than $#arrayName because I think the latter tends to lead to off-by-1 errors more often than not, but perhaps I use it without the explicit scalar() surround a bit too much... I'll have to think about that (weigh it against line lengths of less than 80 chars and such)

The "files array" is a list of files which u hv attached with ur workflow or the files which u hv checked before initiating the workflow.

I wrote this workflow for TS6.5 and it was workign fine before embedding this new thing... i took this ipl written by someone else to generate HTML from DCRs.. i modified my workflow and added one more external task for this..

Well, first of all, when posting code, you should really post it as an attachment. When posting small fragments, use the Code tags.

Now, you didn't answer my first question, which was important. Where did you get this code from?

Does the DCR you are trying to use this script for have an item in it called 'generated-file'? My guess is no, but the script currently needs this. You're going to need to populate $generatedFile some other way.

On ur WFT put this two lines and reply what u r gettting the length of array.This will give u the length of files array.

Huh? You want him to copy and paste some other code that isn't going to work in his situation? He doesn't have any of the variables you are using defined, how could this possibly work? In case you didn't notice, he already has the same syntax you just gave him, but with other variables that aren't working.

One of the biggest recurring problems on devnet comes from "developers" copying and pasting code they don't understand. Rather than copying and pasting until they get something that works, they need to start thinking about what the code is doing and modify it accordingly. Or, <gasp>, write it themselves. This is one of the most frustrating things to see. Someone who is obviously using code they didn't write in a way that obviously won't work and then they come here and ask "why doesn't this work?". IMO, the answer should always be "Look at the code, think about what it is doing and it should be obvious why it isn't working."

Here i dont have code of wft of Nitesh. So i hv tried to point out the problem in small time.
If i solve his problem than good . In last post i just want to provide him "system" command. Because i hv used that.And the var_names were simple enough to understand.

Well, you seem to be missing the DCR name. All you have is the path to the data directory, no DCR.

And you should include the full path to the generated file. You don't necessarily need to when you're testing, but you do in your code.

THe proper file is getting generated when i try to execute it from command line...
