Starting workflow in datacapture form
milind
Hi,
We are using TeamSite6.1 on solaris 5.8
Can we start a workflow when a dcr is saved ?
We get 2 buttons when we open a datacapture form 1)Finish 2) Cancel
Can we start a workflow when user clicks on "Finish" & the dcr is saved ?
Thanks & Regards
Milind

Please RTFM about tt_data.

You can also use formAPI to redirect to the newjob URL. Something like this:
var url = "/iw-cc/newjob?vpath=" + parent.datacapture.getDCRVPath() + "&iw_template_file=my.wft";
parent.window.location.href = url;
This might be safer since tt_data has had a history of going away. This also provides more flexibility since you can go to a different workflow based upon the document type.

Good point. There are, indeed, issues with tt_data on 6.1 and some platforms. I don't recall if that was solved in a service pack or not, however.
Current Environments:
(1) TS 6.5 on W2K3 (x2 - diff. imp.)
(3) Vignette V7 Portal on Solaris 9

That is a great tip. I just used that instead of a tt_data and its MUCH cleaner and flexible.

There is one potential issue with the formAPI route. If the file is already in a workflow, you may not want to start a new workflow. To accomplish this, you need to create a CGI/JSP that will check to see if the current file is in a workflow and set a javascript variable with the workflow status. You can then callout to that cgi/jsp using a callServer to query the cgi/jsp and choose to start the workflow, or pass on the workflow.
