Read custom xml in config

Hi All,

I want to load and read the custom XML in <application>/custom/config/generic.xml path in my custom component behaviour class.

Can this be achieved through IConfigReader, lookup etc.

Is there a way to achieve this. my custom xml is not of any component and is stand alone xml.

If it is possible, please share the template code.

if you put an XML file in <application>/custom/config/generic.xml it will be loaded by the config service when the app is started.

you can put files into other folders but then you have to load them yourself...

However the root of your xml file has to be <config> or else the Config Service API will fail to load it

Used this a long time ago to create test users and groups... do not have source code handy

Thanks for the reply. I will definitly try to figure out this. Meanwhile, do you have syntax or code snippet of how this can be accomplished. Just to confirm does this work for non component xml file also? In other words. can I access any xml in any class file as long as xml is in config directory?

Thanks for the reply. Actually, I am trying to accomplish this by config reader, lookup etc. without parsing it by myself.

I am sure enough that this can be done, if file resides in config file. Still I am not able to get it for the EMC Webtop guides.

Please let me know if my understanding is correct.

Hi,

Lookup methods are in the Component class, so any component can make a call similar to the following:

Boolean enableShowAll = lookupBoolean("enableShowAll")

For Looking up values outside the component class, here is an example from the DrillDown class,

IConfigLookup lookup = getConfigLookup();Integer nItems = null;nItems = lookup.lookupInteger(GeneralPreferences.PREF_STREAMLINE_FOLDERS, new Context());

I dont think this is applicable in your case, as you are reading values from xml file.

ConfigReader:

Can you try the below code and see if you are able to access the needed config file.

IConfigReader configReader = HttpConfigReaderFactory.getConfigReader(getPageContext().getServletContext(),
                                                                  (HttpServletRequest)getPageContext().getRequest());// load all configuration files within the application's config folder
Iterator configFiles = configReader.loadConfigFiles("custom");
while ( configFiles.hasNext() )
{
  ConfigFile configFile = (ConfigFile)configFiles.next();
  //use APIs of ConfigFile to lookup your value
}

Hi Rajalakshmi,

Thanks for your help, now I am able to load the config file but still struggeling to get the inner tags although lots of methods are available for elements. I am not sure which is the correct method to fetch the dotted path like

<Child_Attributes>

col

</Coloumn>

<Label>

lbl

</Label>

</Child_Attributes>

</configurations>

To access lbl where can I give fully qualifiied path like - "configurations.Child_Attributes.Label"

No I do not have source code available as it was a long time ago I did this
