TeamSite Installation

Can 2 instances of TeamSite run on the same Box? (E.X. TS 5.5.2 and TS6.5 running as two different instances on the same box)

Thanks

Amar

Yes, this is possible, I seen one thread before in forum. You can try search that.

Thanks Nicholas

Contrary to the claims expressed in the aforementioned thread I believe any attempt to do this [without VMWare or similar] is completely unsupported and likely to lead to problems somewhere down the line.

Using VMWare - which has never been "officially" supported, has been "unofficially" supported for some time - at least on Windows - but even then, I've never seen it setup such that two or more instances can be running at the same time (though I suppose that's possible - I'd think the computing resources used by TS would likely make each instance run horribly slow if not causing the server to go down on it's knees).

It might help a bit more if you provided a bit more context for your question. E.g.: Platform(s) you're wanting to do this with; Purpose (laptop, consulting/development vs. server, customer/end-user interaction).

Yes, it can be done and I've seen it in several environments. The most extreme (and probably most fragile) of this is of a certain insurance company in Michigan where they were running THREE versions of TeamSite on the same Solaris machine alongside TWO and eventually ONE MORE WebSphere instance.

Apparently, hardware was at a premium there. It can be done but if you ever want to receive support on it, good luck... because you won't.

Current Environments:
(1) TS 6.5 on W2K3 (x2 - diff. imp.)
(3) Vignette V7 Portal on Solaris 9

Yes, I agree too. Ultimately, it's off the track.

Running more than one instance of TeamSite on the same machine is absolutely not supported. TeamSite interacts with the OS kernel and having different versions of TeamSite on the same machine could lead to unpredictable issues.

On the VMWare front, we are looking to see if we can claim support for TeamSite running on VMWare ESX 2.5. However, we will probably only support those virtual machines running currently supported OS versions for TeamSite and we will not certify against different VMWare versions. Watch for an official statement on this shortly.

Hi Mr. Menon, has the official statement been released yet? If so, how do I get a hold of it? There's one article in the Interwoven Support site re. OpenDeploy and VMWare, but nothing re. TeamSite and VMWare.

Thanks,

S.

Sunil,

Has an official statement been released concerning support for TeamSite on VMWare?

My client is currently testing TeamSite 6.5 SP2 on Win 2003 in a VMWare environment. If there is an officially supported version of VMWare that they should be using, we require this information immediately.

Thank you

I would suggest to email him as he might not attend this thread as its quiet old now.

Here is a statement that we issued about VMWare Support a while back.. The gist of it is that we will support customers on VMWare but not officially certify TeamSite releases against VMWare versions..

VM WARE Support

Interwoven will support customers running TeamSite on VMWARE, but do not explicitly certify TeamSite on VMWARE. Interwoven certifies TeamSite on specific operating system versions, not VMWARE versions. According to VMWare, the virtual machine environment should be transparent to the application. Therefore, if the server (OS) being virtualized by VMWARE is a platform and version that TeamSite supports, we can support customers running TeamSite in that VM Ware environment.

[size=2][font=Arial]We have validated the above in a test environment using VMWare ESX 2.5 with a Windows 2000 virtual machine running TeamSite 6.5.
