I have installed Documentum Developer Edition 6.6. In Documentum_Content_Server_66_Fundamentals.pdf I see: “A simple document is a document with one or more primary content files”

Sp a specific version of a simple document can have several content files? I do not see ability to add more than 1 file in Webtop GUI. Maybe Developer Edition does not allow it? Please clarify.

Yes, A specific version of a simple document can have several content files.

A content file can have multiple rendition files. Renditions can only be viewed. They cannot be manipulated like primary content files. Renditions cannot be versioned, their properties cannot be edited, and they are not managed as independent documents.

To import a rendition in Webtop:

1.Select the desired document

2.Select File > Import Rendition from the menu

3.The Import Rendition screen appears

4.Browse the local file system to locate the rendition file

5.Click Ok •

The imported file will be associated with the document as a rendition

Thnak you for the answer. yes, I know about the 'renditions'. But I did not think that citation from Documentum_Content_Server_66_Fundamentals.pdf is about them. Are you sure that the renditions were meant there?

To use multiplie primary formats check out the DFC API:

IDfSysObject.setContentEx(ByteArrayOutputStream content, String format, int pageNumber)

IDfSysObject.getContentEx(String format, int pageNumber)

I don't think Webtop supports multiple primary formats and as for now I haven't seen an application yet which leverages this kind of functionality.

But you said 'multiple primary formats'. I thought all primary content files of a document have the same format. This is what I see in Documentum_Content_Server_66_Fundamentals.pdf:

Primary content refers to the content that is added to the first content file added to a document. It
defines the document’s primary format. Any other content added in that same format is also called

The primary content is the one in the format specified in the a_content_type attribute. There can be more than one file (called 'page' even though it doesn't have to refer to a physical page). A typical example if when you have multiple single-page TIFF files received via a fax machine or scanned: since it's all part of the same document, you append all the file to the same document object as the primary content.

This is useful but the downside is that most Documentum clients (e.g. Webtop) do not support this mechanism.

I don't think that any client provided by EMC Documentum supports that. You can however customise them or write your own client. Or maybe clients from partners support it.

I have a similar requirement where we have multiple single-page TIFF files whihc are appended to the same document object as the primary content. I am currently trying to extend the ucfexportcontainer to try to export all the contents which are stored at different pagenumbers of a document. It does not seem to accept pagenumber as one of the component parameters.

Were you able to get any of the clients to export all content or did you end up creating a new client. I will try to post the code if I am able to get webtop customization working.

Hi, I created a customization to access all pages of a document form webtop.

Modified the DownloadServlet which comes with webtop also accept pageNumber as parameter. This is over http instead of ucf and was simpler to modify. Not the most elegant but it works.

Some info in case anybody else needs to modify it:

The com\documentum\webcomponent\library\httpview\DownloadServlet.java source code is available with wdk.

Loop through all the pages, extracted all the pages in a loop to a buffer whihc was fed into a zip file written to a temp folder. Sent back the zip file httpresponse.

If you are copying and adding your own servlet then need to configure it in web.xml.

The download servlet can be accesed from URL:
