hai i want to know that what is the difference between TBO and web top.I know that tbo are type based object. But we can write the logic in webtop instead of Tbo.what is main usage of TBO than webtop.
If there are Accepted Answers, those will be shown by default. You can switch to 'All Replies' by selecting the tab below.
If you implement a business logic as a TBO, irrespective of the client either Webtop,DA or Taskspace, the TBO will be called. the business logic will reside in content server.
If the same business logic is implemeneted in webtop through component customizaton, it is it specific to that webtop client only.
However, comparing TBO and Webtop is not a good Idea, because TBO will be a part of Interface Layer(component and tools) where as Webtop will be at client application layer in Documentum Architecture.
TBOs are used to override object events (save, link, etc). TBO/BOF is part of the DFC so can be triggered by any client - Webtop, DA, DQL (on later versions of Documentum), etc. If it's a UI customisation then you'll have to do it through Webtop/WDK.

TBOs should contain business logic... hence should be the same regardless of which UI interacts with the system... UIs being Webtop, DA, Web Services, ....
Webtop is a UI.... do not put custom business logic in here, but most folks do and that makes upgrades hard...
Sometimes you have no choice in the matter as business folks want their logic in the UI, to make the UI more responsive and interactive with their users
TBO's can be very useful for things like automatically launching a workflow if its the first save on the document, validating input fields. calling web services to obtain extra data, etc.
