TeamSite Upgrade/Platform Change pitfalls?
ReggieRWalker
Currently we are on TeamSite 5.5.2 on AIX (content store in a SAN) with plans to both upgrade to 6.5 on Windows 2003. My question is are their any experienced pitfalls with this type of migration and are there any necessary tasks to perform on the content store to make it available?
TIA

I'd strongly suggest you contact Support.
Going from a Unix system to a Windows system is generally a NON-TRIVIAL change.
The fact that your backing store is on a SAN *might* help - but I'd be very skeptical. The userid/groupid scheme is entirely different and it's quite possible that you will not be able to do this - but may in fact have to create a *new* backing store and manually transfer the content over.
Also - I'd expect to spend *at least* a month going through all the custom scripts (CGI menu code, externaltask scripts, cgitask scripts, callout scripts, etc.) because it is quite likely that they will need to be modified to work on the new platform.
Personally - if you want to move to intel boxes - I'd suggest researching the possibility of migrating to Linux instead of Windows -- you should probably ask about this when talking to Support too.

Is TeamSite on Linux is fully adequate to Solaris one? The one I had was somwewhat limited.

Hi Greg,
Interwoven's latest version for Linux is TeamSite 6.1. There won't be a release of TeamSite 6.5 for Linux.
The release of TeamSite 6.7 for Linux will be comparable to the Solaris version for TeamSite 6.7.

This is what I tried. It has some limitations - this is what I was trying to say. But thanks for letting me know about the plans.

Greg - Thanks for the question / comment
Heather - Thanks for the info. What's the estimated release date / quarter for 6.7 (in general, and Linux specifically) ?
Reggie - My original comment stands - contact support. The only modification to my comment is that if you want to move to Linux (which I still think you should talk to support about - in regard to whether or not that will have any impact on migrating the backing store) - you'd have to wait until 6.7 is released.

TeamSite 6.7.1 will be the release when Linux will become a first-tier platform for TeamSite - meaning Linux, Windows and Solaris will ship at the same time.. That release is currently targeted for June 2006, but it hasn't yet been locked and so the dates might change slightly depending on the final project schedule..
There will be a TS 6.7.0 release on windows and solaris that will ship in Feb 2006.. We will be conducting a Beta in December of this year..
thanks

Sunil,
Is your previously mentioned release date for TS 6.7.0 still accurate? And has the Beta program for 6.7 been started? I have not heard any news or an announcement so far. A client is currently running TS 6.1 and they are weighing the option of bypassing the 6.5 upgrade and going straight to 6.7.0.

there is a TeamSite 6.7 Beta forum, so it certainly looks like Beta is going.

Andy, the beta forum is only available to those who have access to the beta software. No one else can see it. So unless you're in the beta, you probably wouldn't know it was going on.

Hi Jeremy,
There is a Beta for TeamSite 6.7 currently going on. If you are interested
in participating in the Beta, please let me or Sunil know and we will add you
to the Beta group and get you access to the downloads and beta forum.
There is plenty of time to participate and join the beta group if people are
interested in using the new features in TeamSite 6.7.
Sunil held a TeamSite 6.7 Kickoff Meeting last week covering all the new features
in 6.7 and answering questions. You can view the TeamSite
6.7 Kickoff Session
here
.
Thank you,
Heather

oh, as an added note, the Beta only includes Unix and Windows installers - the Linux version is not included in the Beta.

Heather
