Starting a workflow from ASP.Net

Hi, all. I'm trying to use Content Services to start a workflow from an ASP.Net page (this page is actually a portlet hosted in Plumtree portal). I'm using the createWorkflow() method from the WorkflowServiceBinding class and I understand that I need to supply a workflow specification - that's where I have a question. Given that I have the WFT, what is the best way to generate this? I've looked through the available methods from the web services and it doesn't look like there's any way to generate this from within CS. Do I really have to write a bunch of code to generate this huge XML string in memory and feed that to the createWorkflow() method? Surely there has to be a better way.

I guess that's what you'll have to do.

.wft are a higher level - programatic way to create a job spec (xml).

TeamSite and CS only work with the job spec.

You could try to take iwwft_compile.ipl (and all it's required modules) and see if you can generate the xml spec on the other system through an external system call.

Not the nicest way, but maybe the easiest way.

Shoot, I was hoping that wasn't the answer. This is not an insignificant workflow so it's going to be a rather large amount of XML that I'll have to generate. I'll have to check to see if putting perl on the portal server is an option because I don't want to be modifying this thing in the future if the workflow happens to change. That could turn into a maintenance nightmare. Anyway, thanks for the response!

Yup, this is ugly at best. iwwft_compile is not a really good option.

I happen to be working on a ipl that kicks off a job. Since I inherited this
code, I thought I would read some at home. 40 pages printed out, 2250
lines of perl. A consultants dream.
