Hello,
Could someone help to answer my questions below:
We are planning to do upgrade and migration from 5.3 (old hardware) to 6.5 (new hardware). The requirements are: keep the current object id, migrate only documents, certain audit trail and a few other objects. Also, during the migration from 5.3 to 6.5, some metadata is also modified for certain documents. Thus, when the migration is completed, certain documents will have new metadata.
We are looking at:
1. Since we will move to new hardware in 6.5. What we are thinking is to install 6.5 on the new hardware, then migrate documents from old hardware to new hardware. During the migration, we update metadata for certain documents. With this approach, we can control what to bring over and when to bring over. Thus, during the migration process, we can have two live systems and thus won't have any down-time. The problem is how do we keep the same object id when migrating to the new system? Is there a migration tool that allows us to keep the same object id while updating the metadata? I heard Migration Center tool (from a German company can do this?)
2. In-place migration: we can make a copy of the old system, put on the new hardware, do the upgrade on it and then also do post migration cleanup. The problem with this approach is we will have down-time and there maybe a lot of clean up need to be done. We will try to do pre-clean up but will not be sure that we will have a clean system after all the cleanup is done.
Could you please advice on both approaches? Thanks in advance for your help.
Best regards,
Sahra
