Deadlocks putting data to od_events
Bowker
OD 6.0.1
TS 6.5 sp2
OS Win 2003 enterprise server
MSSQL 2000 v8
We are trying to get MS SQL to handle our OD logging. We are seeing deadlocks on the SQL server which freezes the logging. Our usage of OpenDeploy is pretty much continuous all day with multiple deployments running concurrently.
Anyone experience this and or have a solution.
(Yes I posted this same issue yesterday in the TS forum, sorry)

This is actually a bug in OpenJMS and/or MS SQL Server. Or at least the two of them together. In the OpenJMS forums there is a bug filed:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=934627&group_id=54559&atid=474136
In the discussion of the bug, there is a suggested workaround, but it was rejected by the OpenJMS folks because it is MS SQL Server specific. Here is the excerpt from the bug:

There is a work around for this as follows:
Run the following script:
-- Query to solve MS Sql Server/OpenJMS dead lock problem
-- Trick openJMS into using no lock by create view
messages/message_handles tables
-- Rename original tables to alternate names
exec sp_rename
@objname=
'messages',
@newname=
'messages_table',
@objtype
=
'OBJECT'
exec sp_rename
@objname=
'message_handles',
@newname=
'message_handles_table',
@objtype=
'OBJECT'
create view messages
as
select * from messages_table with(nolock)
go
create view message_handles
as
select * from message_handles_table with(nolock)
go
Hopefully, that will do the trick for you... But no guarantees! It's not officially supported and may cause problems, especially with upgrades. Bottom line, back it up before you try changing it.
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks, Mike!
We've been running into this same issue with the TeamSite event subsystem, and were having great difficulty making any progress on it.

Thanks Mike.
That fixed our OD issue. We've been running for several days now, and all appears well.
