Linking documentum field to an external html page

We are looking into a way to manage content within Documentum in a flexible way. We are thinking of having a centralised folder with pre-defined html files with content. The idea would then be to link a documentum field to one of those hmtl pages via either a browse to file button or a text field by inputing manually the html filename.

Have you guys come across something like this before? Do you think this could be implemented?

First of all, what do you by "documentum field"? Are you talking about document attribute? If so, then I havent seen what you have suggested before.

If you mean just referencing content stored outside of the Documentum repository, sure this is common when integrating with other systems. No different then including external images to web page. You just got make sure where ever you are publishing Documentum pages to that the external references are also located on the same web/app server.

Many thanks for your reply! It's exactly what we wanted to hear! What I meant by DCTM field was when you are on edit mode (as a business user let's say try to update content), Instead of pasting an HTML code, you would have a Browse to html file button instead.

I think your answer will help us a lot. We'll have to try and find out how this can be done

- I'm presuming you are using Web publisher. If so, I dont think you can browse to external file to link it to the web content. You just would have to create your own html import reference manually.

If so, do you know of anywhere we could get hold of this type of code?

- Havent seen the latest version of Webpub, but the browse link that I remember in the editor browses repository, or browse to file system. However, the browse to the file system actually 1) imports the document into the repository, and 2) creates a link to the document located in the repository. There is no option for linking externally via button.

EMC implemented Webtop to manage repository content and metadata and RightSite before that. Why are you / your customer reinventing the wheel?

Sounds like you want end users to be able to configure how the ui looks to them. In that case you need a coding language on the server side which will allow the contents of the page from "centralised folder" become part of the UI presented to the user..... have seen this work in the good old days when folks wrote HTML
