Regarding creating a Batch file in Documentum

Hi All,

I have written DFC code to import data form external storage to Documentum, I have did it by using composer.Now I want to run this code as a Batch file(i.e i want to create a batch file where i can run this program as a exe). We can do it in java by setting path,classpath and etc. I don't how to do it in documentum. what are the variables I need to set in the batch file). Please help me in this regard.

Hi,

if you mean by batch file a "dos scripting file", here is a sample .bat file i have setup to run some export code we have written:

@echo off

set LIBS=lib/dfc.jar;lib/;lib/dfcbase.jar;lib/DmcRecords.jar;lib/complianceExportFrame.jar;lib/jxl-2.4.2.jar

java -cp %LIBS% com.comp.export.compliance.ComplianceExportFrame %1 %2 > outputFile.txt

LIBS is just all the libraries your project needs plus the DFC jar files.

The red text is the fully qualified name of the class you want to run.

the %1 and %2 are how Batch files do parameters

and the " > outputFile.txt" directs all System.out.println() commands to that file.

you can also add a "start /B " command just before the java command and this will start the program without the hanging command prompt.

I have one more doubt, how abt the .class file. You haven't used javac for compiling. How u r comiling the file. when I tried to compile the file Iam getting errors like

Cannot find the package com.documentum.fc.common.DfException;

How to include these packages?

the "LIBS" line specifies all the jar files you project needs to run. log4j is an open source logging library that we use heavily for all of our Java programs. Logging is very very helpful.

In Composer ( and Eclipse ) you can right click on a project and say "Export" then select "Java" -> "Jar File" This will export all of your custom code into a single jar file. (for example name it, customDfcCode.jar ) This export compiles and packages your files into the jar file.

Look up the java syntax about adding jar files to your classpath. I have heard that Java 6 allows you to add entries with wildcards so you can say for example add all jar files in the %DOCUMENTUM_SHARED% directory, which is where all of the dependancies for DFC code lie, if im not mistaken. If you're using Java 5 ( most likely ) you will have to list out each jar file you need to reference. In windows seperate them with semi colons ";" in unix environments, use colons ":"
