Please don't put long strings in your message titles

I've seen several posts where a long string has been copied into the message title e.g. "DM_SESSION_E_CANT_MAKE_TEMP_CONNECTION,ORA:12516 and dm_bear_trap: Unexpected exception, (SIGSEGV: segmentation violation:) error" or "Jobs not running --DM_SESSION_I_RETRYING_DATABASE_CONNECTION". These long strings mess up the formatting of the message list, which makes it difficult for everyone using the forum.

So please, avoid these long strings in your message title. Enter a short informative title and then include the full error message in the body of your post.

As we're asking all members to take responsibility for the quality of the forum, please remind other posters about this request when you see this happening.

To be honest, personally, as being part of as lot of different discussion forums (Document related or not), I find that the longer a title, the better because at least, I know what a thread is all about and can choose to read/answer it or not. Then again, I also understand you point...

another comment is that to my personal point of view, the user interface of the communities is far from being optimized. The width of the discussion list is about 50% of the width of the page. Actually, the width of the whole page is barely more than 50% of the screen. Lots of wasted space that could be used to better display the titles....Maybe it's time to think about redesigning a bit the site to remove this kind of limitations...

With first part of your post I agree but I want to advise you something about second part.

You can create your own custom View and got exactly what you want.

Couldn't get it to use 100% of the screen though... Also, I thought the My View stuff was for the entry point alone or am I missing something here ?

Just to be clear, long titles are ok. Long words/strings within the title are what cause the problems. It usually happens when someone pastes an error message that contains a long error code or attribute name.

Not much we can do about the format of the forums, unfortunately. This is a hosted platform so we have limited ability to change the layout. You're right that there's no way to personalize the layout of the forums.

ok, got it for the long string and then indeed you're right, let us try not to do that... people, add a space in those strings so they can be wrapped properly.....

Too bad about the formating but hey, I'll live with that
