How to check whether documents are present in repository or not?

Hi All,

I will elaborate on my query, I created a batch file(DOS script) to import documents from shared drive to documentum, it is running successfully, But my problem is whenever Iam running my Batch file, everytime iam seeing same documents available..for example I have 5 documents in shared drive, for the first time 5 documents are getting imported. when Iam running the batch file for second time, Iam seeing the same documents twice i,e10 documents, how can overcome this...If there any new documents comes to the shared drive, I want to import only the new documents, not entire documents,

I doubt that could be done from a DOS script (assuming a .bat or .cmd file) or it would become quite complicated, otherwise, if you could do it using a DFC/DFS app you could query the Docbase 1st.

How is your script importing those files, API, DQL ? Can you show it to us ?

I have written DFC code and then created a batch file for the class file............. I want to achieve it through DFC itself. Could you please elaborate on DQL.

Well, I assume that when you import a file, you, at least, set the object name and the folder it should go to therefore, you could do a simple select statement such as

select r_object_id from <My DOCUMENT TYPE> where object_name="blabla" and Folder('/my cabinet/my folder/my sub folder')

then if you get an object_id return, you can check it out, check it in as a new version and set the content to the file on the file system, this way, instead of creating a new document with the same details, if it doesn't exist, then you can create it as you do now

Then again, there's quite a lot of Open Source stuff out there to import documents so you might want to check them out and get rid of the pain of maintaining your custom code yourself

Easy.. in your app, when you loop thru the files in your file system directory, for each files, you test it exists as I described previously....

Another option would be to add a parameter to the java app that says "don't import documents that were created before X" where X is the time you last run your import tool. Another added feature would be to look at files created before that same X value and see if any of them were changed, then update the document in the documentum repository. But this should all be governed by the requirements around the app I guess.

I fired a query to get the object ids from the repository...

objQry.setDQL("select object_name from dm_document where Folder('/Migration/sample_import')");

I have written this to get the objectnames,but the problem is its not entering into while loop. And Collection object is not empty....what might be the problem?

What my approach is everytime I read a object name from the repository I will compare it with the filenames, if it is available then I don't want to import to the repository, if it is not available then I will import it to the repository.Suggest me...

Did you verify that your DQL returns values from DA? Maybe there's a typo. FOLDER predicate is case sensitive.

Assuming the session is a valid session object, double check the user used to open it has access to view those documents. Your session might be a valid login, but might not have access to view those documents.

User have access to view those documents, I have checked it. It returning the values....

Either delete the files from the shared drive or move the files to a different folder location say "Processed Docs" once the document is imported into repository successfully. There should be permission on shared drive to do so.

As the file count increases, querying the docbase for each and every file will impact the performance.
