stopping iwfsck
stevekrys
Hi all,
On Win 2k 5.5.2 and preparing to upgrade to 6.5 on same platform. To prepare moving the production backing store to to our dev environment, I've run iwfsck. It has been running for nearly 24 hours now. The backing store is about 18 GB. I'm going to let it run but if I have to stop due to users needing to get back on the system (I've been ruinning it over the weekend... Monday morning is fast approaching!) I'm not sure how to stop it. I have not been able to find anything documented. Also, will I cause any damage to the backing store if I stop the process? Thanks in advance!

If you're runjning iwfsck in read-only mode (generally things like 'iwfsck -d') then you can kill the process (Ctrl-C, End Process, whatever) without any problems because it's only reading the backing store not writing to it.
If you're using any other flags - you're best off contacting Support first to get an official verification that you can kill the process without causing any problems.
Why the iwfsck is taking that long for a moderate sized backing store is curious (on Solaris 8 with 5.5.2 a 20Gb backing store would take roughly an hour to iwfsck).

Thank you ghoti! It FINALLY stopped running after 28 hours. I was simply running iwfsck -d. I did read that the configuration of the server could effect the time it takse to run. Plus, we do have a lot of editions since we cut a new branch for every weekly site release and each branch has 4 to 8 editions... about 2-3 years worth of content in this structure. I will inquire with Support just to confirm. Thanks again!

I saw this thread and thought this would be an appropriate question for here.
I am preparing to run our first iwfsck and iwfsshrink and am wondering approximately how long I should expect it to take?
Our environment details are as follows:
TeamSite 6.5.1
Windows 2003
Intel Zeon 3.2 GHz
3 GB or ram
Backing store is approximately 17 GB
I am just looking for a ball park so I know what to expect as far as down time.
Thanks,
ProfessorX
This depends on this size of you store and what options you are running with:
I know gottie put a post somewear on how long it would take but I cant find it for the life of me
2.5 Gig every hour maybe for a deep skan of iwfsck
as far as shrink couple hours for 17 gig
Note: One time tech support sent me a newer version or iwfsck which included .exe .map and .pdb
This CLT zoomed along much faster and gave a little more info in the output. E-mail me if you want the date mod on those files

Thanks for the response. If you could post the mod dates of those I would really appreciate it .
Thanks,
