Synchronization Via VSAT Connection

We have a situation in our office where we have 2 Documentum servers in a separate location (between HQ - branch offices).

We want to synchronize our Documentum servers so that these 2 servers have exactly the same documents. For now, they are not synced and that causes many differences in number of docs, version, etc.

Problem is we will do the sync job through VSAT link (because of geographical constraint) which already has quite big load on it (daily network activity).

I want to ask some questions here:

has there been any case like this i.e. sync job via sattelite?
how can we optimize or minimize the load that sync job will take place so that it doesn't interfere with the existing load/activity?

I have been looking through google for this kind of matters, and I believe this is the right place to ask.

You should look into changing your remote content server to BOCS (Branch Office Caching Server). Its designed to cache documents across geographical separation. It also supports low-bandwidth and high latency data transfer, which may occur with VSAT.

Is the feature available in any version of Documentum? The version that we use is 5.3

And also, what is the protocol that Documentum utilizes in the application layer?

Since 5.3 is no longer "officially" supported, I dont think you can 5.3 version of BOCS. EMC will tell you to upgrade to the latest version (6.6). Plus, BOCS has been significantly enhanced from the initial version to the current version - I wouldnt try to use older version.

I believe BOCS uses straight HTTP to transfer content and metadata between Content Server and Remote Server. Remote Server is just simple application server.
