Data migration from one development server to production

Hi,

I am using a development server for data population. Have to migrate the content to a Production server post application rollout.

Facing issues with it as while physically moving the data the files looses the file association and DCR's are getting open as xml instead in the forms.

Please guide me about the proper way of migrating the content.

You might want to copy the entire backing store so that all the EAs are preserved. They are essential for displaying the DCRs properly. Backing store's default location is /local/iw-store.

You may want to ask IW Support. They used to have a script that basically traversed source tree
and generated a bunch of "iwextattr -s..." commands. You then may save an output to the file,
copy it over and run on target machine. The name was something like "setattr"

Hi,
Approach of using OpenDeploy is better, it may take little more time, but then u won't have to set extended attributes through a script.
Any author/editor can do this activity.
Also you can use same deployment settings for future content deployment.

as another option, you may be able to use iwmigrate (CLT) for this depending on the exact circumstances.

If you do copy directly, here is the steps I use to include EAs.

Moving Content between TeamSite servers:

1) Create new WA in source branch.
a. Title: “TranYYMMDD” (example: Tran031022)
b. Base it on most current edition (compare area first and resolve as needed).
c. Owner and group for sharing should match existing
2) Start/Run: cmd & change directories to E:\admin\util
3) saveattr.ipl y:\default\main\DIS\AW\workarea\tranYYMMDD > ea.out (will write to E:\admin\util. Note: takes ~5 minutes to run.)
4) Set up matching workarea on target as, in step 1, but based on initial edition.
5) Map drive to target server’s IWSERVER share.
6) Copy content from source’s Tran workarea to Tran workarea on target.
7) Copy ea.out file from source to E:\admin\util on target.
8) Start/Run: cmd & change directory to E:\admin\util
9) setattr.ipl ea.out (takes several minute to run.)
10) On target, compare area/view locks & ask owner to resolve as necessary.
11) Also on target, rename workarea “(WA)asofYYMMDD”
12) Rename “TranYYMMDD” workarea to workarea’s actual name
13) Make change to NTFS permissions (this will trigger TeamSite that the files have been updated) and submit all content in workarea.
