Migrating Existing Documents from 5.3 SP4 Docbase to D6.5 Sp1 docbase

Dear Team,

We have an existing docbase of 5.3 SP4 Docbase. We want to move the existing contents present under a specific cabinet to the new repository of D6.5 SP1 Docbase. The D6.5 SP1 docbase is already in production and we just want to move the existing documents of type dm_document to the new docbase in a separate object type.

The 5.3 SP4 environment is in Linux environment where as D6.5 SP1 environment is in Windows environment. The volume of existing Data will be around 10GB.

Please suggest the best workaround.

You will have to create a custom DFC migration program or use a tool like Bluefish migration workbench to achieve this. I don’t think EMC provides any tools for this.

On a second thought, you could create the new object type and move the document to the new type then upgrade your 5.3 SP3 to 6.5 SP1. Now you can use dump and load to move these document in small chunks. Note that dump and load is not an ideal tool to do move 10gb of content. So split it in to small chunks and move

We cannot upgrade the existing 5.3 SP4 environment since it is a production environment and it will be used by other users. We need to migrate the existing documents from one docbase to new 6.5 SP1 docbase.

I heard about another tool Bulldozer which is used for Migration purpose. Does anybody have idea about this and whether it will fulfill our requirements?

have never used a migration tool.... were not available when I had to do that. Your requirements are pretty simple and all migrations tools should be able to handle.

If you have new mandatory attributes then you will need to edit the migration tool property file to populate them.... or else if you can put the data from a table, create a TBO to set mandatory data during migration... remove the TBO afterward..... ??? well actually never done that part so not sure if it would work

You can make a repository copy of 5.3 SP4, then upgrade and use dump and load, otherwise you have to use a migration utility or come up with your on code.
