iwperl --> perl

jkm

Hi guys,
By mistake I screwed up the perl binary on my CMS box and to restore it from backup will definitely take too much time. It will be really helpful if someone can provide me IW_HOME/iw-perl/bin/perl file ASAP.
I am using TS 6.5 + SOL. Completely system is down becasue of this Smiley Sad

I am able to copy the perl file from another machine but its throwing me following error message now

# /iw-home/iw-perl/bin/iwperl /iw-home/local/config/wft/BT/ipl/dnr.ipl 135152
Can't locate TeamSite/Config.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /opt/Interwoven/TeamSite/iw-perl/lib /opt/Interwoven/TeamSite/iw-perl/site/lib /opt/Interwoven/TeamSite/iw-perl/vendor/lib .) at /iw-home/local/config/wft/BT/ipl/dnr.ipl line 6.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /iw-home/local/config/wft/BT/ipl/dnr.ipl line 6.

any idea where to change the @INC variable ???

Well, one way you could override your @INC settings is by using the -Z switch in the compile statement. You could also change ALL of your scripts by including a BEGIN block and including that directory, but you're most likely going to have other issues even if that particular problem is resolved.

The best thing is to restore. A huge mistake like that requires a huge fix.

You might be able to use something like adb to to modify the paths in @INC - but you'd be better off restoring if you can. (I remember occasionally editing binaries in Emacs way-back-when - but I wouldn't recommend it)

i reinstalled the TS on my development machine with same path of iw-home and then copied the perl binary and phewww it worked Smiley Happy

This was easy to do rather than getting n approvals for restore and give explanation how did this happen Smiley Happy

Good to know! As can be told by your situation, people can do... overzealous things sometimes (I tried to word that carefully Smiley Wink

) so it's good to know the consequences of this one.

Since you've gotten things working again, i'd suggest taking a poor man's backup by tarring up your iw-home to a file on your server. That way you can restore without getting approvals for retrieving tapes, restoring tapes, long downtime, etc. Just extract the file(s) you need and cp them into place.

it doesn't replace tape backups which will grab files that change (cfgs, wfts, etc) but it will help with software that shouldn't change except when patched or upgraded.

Hehe thanks for the suggestion. I was over cautious and this at the same time after restoring perl binary Smiley Wink

I would recommend you to restore the iwperl from backup even if its working right now by copying iwperl file from the development server. I strongly disagree have a separated backup of the TeamSite server files inorder to bypass the approval process to restore the files from the backup.

You're not bypassing the approvals to restore files. Actually, if a server is down, you don't ask for approval. You inform management of what you're doing to fix it. Or, at least that's my experience/procedure.

You _are_ bypassing the red tape, expense, and delay in ordering a tape from an off-site location, waiting four hours or more for it, getting charged for the retrieval, waiting for the tape library to load and restore the files.

If a TeamSite is down because iwperl is gone you email your change management group saying, "It's dead, Jim! I'm restoring these files right now. We'll be running again in three minutes."

Cheers
