slow with Internet Explorer

I have a D6.5sp3 and webtop running. My client are using IE, it is very very slow.

On my own PC, I have a firefox4. Of course it is not a supported version but its performance is a lot better then IE.

Is anyone using IE without problem? How can I get a better performance with IE?

Hi Alex,

Can you please let us know:

What is the version of IE they are using?
Are your application hosted on SSL and it URL starts with https instead of http?
Are the users having JRE installed on their computers?

Also, ensure that the users are having the below options correct on IE settings:

1. If the users are at Remote location, then ask them to opt for Tools>Internet Options>Settings( Under Browsing History) > Automatically>OK>OK

2. If they are on the specific site itself, then ask them to opt for Tools>Internet Options> Settings( Under Browsing History) > Every Visit to the Page>OK>OK

3. Under Tools>Internet Options> Under Privacy Tab>Uncheck 'Turn On Pop blocker' option

4. Never ask the users to Hit a 'Back' or 'Refresh' Buttons while navigating through Webtop folder hierarchy, rather ask them to use Tree nodes.

5. Also ask them to Accept the Security Pop-ups as 'Yes' and 'Always Trust from the Publisher' option.

6. Have the JRE latest version i.e. 1.6.0_16 for the applet to be working.

Hope, these above points help to fix the issues of your users.

hi,

- IE version 8.0.7600.16385
- No SSL
- JRE 6U17 is in use
- all machines are on local lan

- the setting recommanded had already done.

what is the best browser for D6.5? I try on firefox4, it gives a smooth respond. However, it is not a cert. browser.... Also, our user all using IE 7 or 8, that's sth we cannot change : (

Hi Alex,

With IE 8.0, there's an option of 'InPrivate Browsing', please ensure users have not opted for it.

Also, on what operation they feel the slowness?( i.e. Login, Browsing, CO/CI, Export/Import etc.). what is the default location for all users in Webtop, by default it should be 'Home Cabinet' and 'Items per page' should default to '10'.

It helps in improving the performance.

On Technical terms, with IE7.0/8.0 and DCTM 6.5SP3, slowness has never been reported which was due dependent on Browser make and version(i.e. > IE 6.0) unless its on SSL. Please check with the users, if they are carrying out something tricky

InPrivate Browsing is not used. It is slow when loading pages, i.e. after login, opening cabinate/folder, etc.
I have just try to work on a windows7 IE8, AMD Athlon Neo Processor 1.6GHz CPU, 2G RAM. It takes over 10 sec to complete opening the page after login.
But on the same machine with Firefox4, the page display right away.

could be machine issue?? let me try on some other machines...

Gotcha!!!.. its Windows 7.0 OS.

Please try on a computer having Windows XP/Vista. You may find a marked difference.

Hello Alex,

We also met this issue in our project, exept we are using Taskspace. We have noticed that in IE6 the system works some quiсker. I don't think that it is the machine issue. Unfortunately, we still not solved this problem.

May be version 6.7 will can help with it, I've not tested yet.

We are using Windows XP.

BTW,

in Google Chrome speed is even higher

but the pages are not always rendered correctly.

The only justification for the slow response is a large number of elements on the page (that we have in our project), but this problem still not solved - the customer did not want to reduce the number of elements.

So if you have a not very big forms may be your issue is something else.

I think Community needs some more info about your case.

Alex,

What Konstantin is saying is that your OS/IE version is not officially supported for 6.5; therefore, the performance issues with IE may have never surfaced with EMC. That being said, version 6.7 supports Win7/IE8. Now that its supported, you should be able to submit a ticket with EMC if there is signficant performance issue with IE8 as compared to other browsers.

I have a very weird story about IE performances with Windows 7 and Webtop 6.6 and 6.6

I found my Webtop to be very slow to respond whilst, on the same machine, Firefox was indeed much faster. The issue I had was not so much the display (everybody know IE is much slower than Firefox) but also the responsiveness of the menus and right click.

On this machine, I had, permanently connected, an external Western Digital 1TB drive attached.

One day, my external drive died on my so I unplugged it, since then Webtop menus and context menus are much faster

don't ask me why though, I'm as puzzled as anybody would be....

Hi Alex,

As mentioned by everyone and its found that, the performance of Chrome/Mozilla are quite better than IE, so the you can ask your User Communities to use Mozilla/Chrome as default browser, as a workaround.

But it would be nice, if you can submit a SR with EMC for further investigation on the slowness of Webtop 6.5/6.6 SPx on IE.

Thing is that Drag & Drop only works in IE and quite often, once the users know about it, they don't want to lose it....
