Details on how to configure JAMES
jman
Hi,
I'm trying to setup JAMES to implement workspace inbox.
The training material states the following ,
The new (JAMES) server will require either:
1) An MX record in the DNS database, or
2) A connector in the main mail server to forward the email for the JAMES server
Is the above mean that either one of the appoach is required for setting up JAMES, instead of doing both?
Any one can share with me some practical experience on setting up JAMES as the above is too brief.
Thanks,
John

Either one should work.
MX records in DNS specifies the SMTP (mail) server locations for a domain. For example, an email to
jman@iwovdms.ajuba.com
to reach your CMS James Server, there should be an MX record in ajuba.com's dns to deliver all the mails for
@iwovdms
.ajuba.com to iwovdms machine. Please contact your corporate IT staff to get this done.
The second approach would require your IT staff to make a change (connector/filter/alias etc) in ajuba.com's main mail server so that all the mails addressed to
@iwovdms
.ajuba.com are forwarded to iwovdms system.
The above configuration is generally required only in production/staging servers. If you are trying to setup something for a demo, you can skip this step and configure your mail client (outlook, outlook-express, thunderbird etc) to send mails directly to the James server (specify james server name as SMTP server). Also for notifications to work, I would setup a simple lightweight mail server (argosoft.com's freeware agsmail.exe that provides SMTP, POP3, web mail reader etc is the one I use) on my local demo box.
Good Luck !!
