Auto creation of document without dropdownlist in webtop

Hi All,

I have a requirement where I have got organizations like accounting,hr..whenever I want to create documents of particular category(i.e organizations) now that I have a drop down list where I can select which type of document like hr document etc.. to create, but the requirement is whenever a user login with a particular category(i.e organizations) we need to get those values by default whenever you want to create document.I mean there should be no dropdown. To elaborate this Suppose A has logged in category as hr then by default whenever he tries to create a document then the document should be of hr document without any dropdownlist...Appreciate your response...

Since that step is also required to enter an object name, I think the easiest way to do this is the following:

- Change the jsp so that the dropdownlist is no longer visible (so the user only needs to enter a name).

- Subclass the component class and inject your own code that will set the dropdownlist value according to your requirements (for example, based on current user's role or something)

- extend/modify the component xml to use your own class instead of the default one

What you should do is make the dropdownlist invisible (don't remove it, just make it invisible).

Then subclass the java class of the component you want (don't know the names by heart) and in one of these methods: onInit, onRender, onRenderEnd (don't remember exactly) you automatically set the dropdown-value to the document type you want.

For example, inside of those methods I mentioned :

DataDropDownList objectTypeList = (DataDropDownList)getControl("objectTypeList", DataDropDownList.class);
            
IDfUser currentUser = ... //get current user
String role = getRoleForUser(currentUser); //create a method that gets the user's role
if(role.equals("hr"))
      objectTypeList.setValue("hr_document");
else
      objectTypeList.setValue("dm_document");

This is just an example, code is not guaranteed to compile/work.

Also, don't forget to call super.onInit(), super.onRender() or super.onRenderEnd() depending on what method you override.

if on a D6 platform then investigate Presets. You can limit the list of available types for document creation or import. This can be done for various rules, include group membership and folder location.... There are more

Correct, but I was under the impression that the OP wanted the dropdown to not be there at all.

I knew that, I just do not agree with a lot of customisation to hide an item from UI.... even more so when the goal can achieved by configuration

my day to day work is customisation, so I should be for it to keep myself employeed..... naw.... life is way eaiser to use out of the box features for simple stuff and write custom code for real problems / interesting stuff

Agree to some level.

I prefer configuration over customisation as well. But here it's a small customisation that is not possible through only configuration (similar yes, but not exactly).
