Inheriting profile information from workspace?

Example VB6 code snippet below: This creates a profiled workspace and then creates a single folder in that workspace.

I had assumed that a folder created in a workspace in this way would inherit its profile information from the parent Workspace, but the folder created using this code does not inherit the custom1/custom2/custom3 information. Is this correct or am I doing something wrong?

I realise I can set the profile information on the created folder using:

oFolder.AdditionalProperties.Add "iMan___25", strClient
oFolder.AdditionalProperties.Add "iMan___26", strMatter
oFolder.Update

Must I do this for each folder I create in the workspace?

Would anyone care to comment on the "correct" way to create folders in a workspace and then assign profile information to these folders and how (if at all) profile information flows from a Workspace.

Folder profile is stored in the AdditionalProperties collection, and the only way to push workspace metadata down to the folder using the imanage.dll is via the additionalproperties.add method. By adding a folder to a workspace does not automatically inherit the workspace metadata.

Another approach would be to use the IManExt2.IManRefileCmd object on the workspace after you have added all the new folders. You may also choose to refile silently in 8.1 like so:

Hi,

I am trying to refile the profile changes manually in a web application by using the Refile method of the IManext2 library. I am having trouble implementing it in the web.

I think I am having trouble in the following line. I am not able to get the handle in the web browser. Can you explain what needs to be done on the web. The code seems to work find in a windows application though. It gets hungup trying to find something.

The IManExt, IManExt2, and IManExt3 DLL's use Windows Controls to display dialogs. You cannot use them in a Browser environment.

You may use the IManage.dll API's to accomplish the same then bring up your own Browser panels/forms.

sorry to bring back up this old thread, but I'm in the exact situation of the original poster and I have a question.

So I have created a new Folder for my workspace, and I want to fill its profile (even if it's not a profile, since it's additionnalProperties...)

I would just like to know if there is an efficient trick to enumerate the profileAttribute of a workspace to assign them as additionnalProperties on my DocumentFolder ?

Currently, I have to write 1 line for 1 attribute and that's not nice since assuming in the future my workspace can have more or less profileAttribute, this will make my code obsolete easily.

Is there a way to avoid this ?

it should be possible with .net code to enumerate over imProfileAttributeID enum, with something like :

You would actually have to find out all of the defined profile fields for that database to know which ones have been profiled by the workspace's profile.

You can find out the defined fields by querying for the IManDatabase.IManAttributeDefinitions Collection Object. Each IManAttributeDefinition Object represents a profile fields defined in the database. You will then be able to attempt retrieve each attribute id from the attributedefinition.attrid and to try to get that attribute from the workspace profile. When it's present, you can then set that value to the folder.
