Document simple search without fulltext

Hi,

I was wondering how can Documentum search a document without fulltext index?

We uploaded a document (dm_document type), and when we searched it, we didn't get the result at all.

Our environment:

CS 6.5 SP1

Webtop 6.5 SP1

DA 6.5 SP1

Tomcat 6.0

I tried to search the document from DA and Webtop but both didnt return me the result.

I've also noticed that dm_document type was not included as "searchable  type",

That is not a problem as it will inherit the setting of its parent type which is dm_sysobject.

In fact if you have your own custom document type, e.g. my_company_base_doc_type, then it would be a very good idea to disable full text indexing for dm_sysobject and enable it for your own custom document type, e.g. my_company_base_doc_type.

This change will eliminate silly stuff like job logs ('/Temp/Jobs/', DESCEND) being sent to the index server.

I've changed it to be searchable but the index server was stuck  then

OUCH... it might have died trying to re-index everything. Don't know for sure as at limit of my understanding of index server.

Search what?

A full text search engine (indexer, results processer) is required to search a documents content
- if testing with quick search in DA & Webtop, it will do a contains search on title, subject, object_name, ... ???
- AND search the documents content
If no full text search engine, then searches only work on document attributes.

Thanks for your reply.

I was searching for object_name attribute in simple search.

Even from advance search, I didnt get result when I search based on any attributes.

I don't think we have fulltext index though, but I'm not sure.

As far as I know if we have fulltext index server, we should have below folder somewhere isn't it?

[Documentum]\jboss4.2.0\server\DctmServer_IndexAgent1

But I can't find it anywhere. The problem is the person who installed and setup our CS was resigned a long time before I came

IF on a 6.x platform (you must be as you have jboss4.2.0), and you can modify the log4.properties of da and/or webtop then add the following lines... Not sure if you have to stop and restart the war for log4j changes to be picked up.... think you do

Sounds right, you should see the following, if Index server was installed on same host as Content Server, but if was installed elsewhere...

[Documentum]\jboss4.2.0\server\DctmServer_IndexAgent1
[Documentum]\jboss4.2.0\server\DctmServer_MethodServer

Can you login to the Administrator client (as an admin)? If yes is anything listed what is listed, if anything, in Indexing nodes ? For me nothing as I have a clean system.

Hi Brian,

Just now, I found where is the index server.
As expected, it was installed in the seperated server from CS.

The query I got from the search result query is:

SELECT  text,object_name,score,summary,r_modify_date,r_object_id,r_object_type,r_lock_owner,owner_name,r_link_cnt,r_is_virtual_doc,r_content_size,a_content_type,i_is_reference,r_assembled_from_id,r_has_frzn_assembly,a_compound_architecture,i_is_replica,r_policy_id,subject,title  FROM dm_sysobject SEARCH DOCUMENT CONTAINS '"RHSE 401-102"' WHERE  (a_is_hidden = FALSE)
which didnt result the document I'm trying to get.

However if the query is:

SELECT * FROM dm_sysobject where object_name like '%RHSE 401-102%' and a_is_hidden = FALSEit will return the document I'm looking for

Are those things (text, score, summary, and SEARCH DOCUMENT CONTAINS) in the first query generated only when the server got re-indexed?

If my thoughts is correct, how can I re-index it?

I was trying to do it from DA (/Administration/Indexing Management/Index Agents and Index Server) -> Fast fulltext engine configuration -> Re-index server, but I still unable to search them.

Yes, I can find FAST Fulltext Engine Configuration object, and DCTMINDEX_IndexAgent1 Object there as well

Glad to see you making projress and my tips helped.

There is a way to request a document to be reindexed but I can not remember. Maybe some else can jump in and suggest or else you will have to read up the Index Server Administration guide

If the document is a test doc that you can do what you want with, then check out and check in as a new version should flag it for indexing

Unfortunately all new documents were not able to be searched. Maybe the index server was stuck.

I just notice that the dm_sysobject type is not indexed. So the only way to do that is to change dm_document object into searchable.

LOL, at the end of the day I didnt re-index everything because it will take time to do that, so I just checkin checkout the document as you mentioned before.

The job was stuck so I restart the index server from DA.
