Symbol table in TS65

Can we use symbol table in TS6.5 ? if no what is the workaround for this.
infact we are migrating our code from TS5.5 to 6.5.Our code contains a lot of symbol table.So after migration to 6.5, my application has stopped working. Can anybody give me a workaround or solution the same?

I'm guessing that you are doing some sort of type-globbing in perl? KB article 51304 may be helpful to you, but the main point of it is that they compiled iwperl with options to preserve some of the older behaviours.

My guess is he has DCTs generated by iwdtd2sym, perhaps made from DTDs or legacy transformed to 5.x from 4.x format. That contains symbol-table tag(s) with elements referenced by itemref tags. I have no experience using that in 6.x so can not really contribute. Just to elaborate if somebody tried that in 6...

you are right. This is exactly what i am doing in my code. i have created symbol tables and using itemref to refernce these symbols.
PFA the sample code. I know the code is not in exactly working conditions, but this will give you all a feel as how these tags look like.

Now in TS65 this thing has stopped working . We were using this feature very frequently in our code in TS552 and in TS6 5 nothing is working due to this problem. So can anybody suggest me a solution for the same?

As I said, I did not use symbol tables since 5.x.

However, if you look at datacapture6.0.dtd you will see that
itemref element has been significantly modified. The most important
difference is new required attribute refid, name does not exist anymore, etc...

So, if I were you I would modify itemref's with refid, remove name and whatnot.
Even before that - contact IW and ask if symbol tables are still supported.
"symbol-table" and "symbol" elements were not in DTD ever, so that's not of a help
either...

but i think symbol tables were there in datacapture5.0.dtd (TS552) and in datacapture6.0.dtd, its not there. infact IW also gives datacapture5.0.dtd along with datacapture6.0.dtd in the TS6.5 for backward compatibility. but this datacapture5.0.dtd in TS6.5 is also not having symbol tables. I am not sure whether it would be a good idea to modify the dtd. can we do this?
what can be the impact if we change this dtd to change usage of itemref and to include symbol table? will it work?

Changing the DTD is unlikely to make any difference. All that would achieve is to make an XML document with the added elements validate against the DTD - it's not going to effect the way the processing application works.

In theory if you are specifying the 5.0 DTD and this DTD has the tags defined in it then it SHOULD work and I would call it an IWov bug if it doesn't - what's the point in leaving the 5.0 DTD in for backwards compatibility if you don't leave all the code in to handle it?

Ok, let me elaborate on what I thought I already said...

1. symbol-table and symbol elements were not in DTD before and are not there now.
You have to contact IW to figure if that functionality is supported in 6 and if it is then what differs.

2. itemref from the other hand WAS there before and IS there now. It has been modified between
5 and 6 and uses refid attribute instead of name attribute. The sample you provided has "name"
and therefore can not work in 6 no matter what.

3. Finally, do not bother with DTD referencies in your DCTs. It has nothing to do to functionality.
In fact, in TS it's just for reference, it is not even used to validate XML.
