Form API bug with setVisible

plantronics

I think there is a bug in TS 6.5 FormAPI, having to do with setVisible, where a previously hidden item is not shown even after setVisible is called on it.

Given the below Form API code, I am iterating through "section" containers and within each "section" container I have any number of "contentGroup" containers. Within a contentGroup, there is an item called "rowcontinue" (not to be confused with the DCR item attribute) and a text item called "rowpercentage" that I would like to show or hide based on the currently selected value of rowcontinue (which is a radio button field with two options, "true" or "false"). I have a formInit handler to initially set up the hidden/visible states of each rowpercentage field (this works since all rowpercentage fields are initially visible), and then an onItemChange handler on the rowcontinue item to update the visibility as the user edits the form. Here is the FormAPI code that SHOULD work:

IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler("onFormInit", initForm);

//show or hide the column width field if the user cahnges the rowcontinue value of any contentGroup
IWEventRegistry.addItemHandler("/page/body/section/contentGroup/rowcontinue", "onItemChange", showHideColumnWidth);

function initForm() {
//I call some other functions here and then call
showHideColumnWidth()
}

//function that goes through each contentGroup and checks to see if rowcontinue is true. if it is, it shows the column width, else hides it
function showHideColumnWidth() {
var i = 1;
var section;
while (section = IWDatacapture.getItem("/page/body/section[" + i + "]")) {

var j = 1;
var contentGroupColumn;

while (contentGroupColumn = IWDatacapture.getItem("/page/body/section[" + i + "]/contentGroup[" + j + "]/rowcontinue")) {

var contentGroupColumnWidth = IWDatacapture.getItem("/page/body/section[" + i + "]/contentGroup[" + j + "]/rowpercent");

//getValue() will return the index array of the radio button option, rather than the value
//since there are only two options for rowcontinue, the only possible values are 0 and 1, so the following test works
if (contentGroupColumn.getValue()) {

alert("current visibility for contentGroupColumnWidth item: " + contentGroupColumnWidth.isVisible());
//the above alert will say the visibility is false, as expected

contentGroupColumnWidth.setVisible(true);

alert("current visibilty for contentGroupColumnWidth item: " + contentGroupColumnWidth.isVisible());
//the above alert will say the visibilty is true, yet it does not show up in the form!

} else {
contentGroupColumnWidth.setVisible(false);
} j++;
} i++;
}
}

Interestingly, the above code when changed to use setReadOnly instead of setVisible, suceeds in making the correct rowpercentage fields read-only. But setVisible does not make the field visible again. Ive treid IWDataCapture.refresh, but I hear this is not required in 6.5 (and in fact throws a JS error that the function does not exist if called).

So is this is a known bug? Anything I might be missing?

Is the field you are trying to use setVisible on in a row by itself? If not, setVisible does not work if you are using rowcontinue=t (the item attribute). Please post your DCT.

That was it. Thanks!

Its strange it would be able to make it disappear, but not re-appear, when its on the same row as another item.

hi,

I think i have read somewhere in the INTERWOVEN documentation that setVisible() only works for those items that have been set hidden through forms API method setVisible(false) and not using <Hidden> tag. As far as i remember, try hiding the form element in the init() method and then make it appear according to your requirement. it should work.

Looks like this is the case for setReadOnly as well ?

if I make an item <readonly /> in the DCT, I cannot change it
by using setReadOnly(fasle), but if I leave that statement out,
I can change this.

So you need ot set hidden and readonly via FormAPI rather than
in the DCT ?

How do I set readonly on startup ?

When I change my value, the setReadOnly works, however I also would like to prevent the
use from changing the field before my JS runs.

I tried this:
(init is where the handlers are defined).

var newitem=IWDatacapture.getItem('/Catalog/AccyCat');
newitem.setReadOnly(true);
IWDatacapture.redraw();
init();

Also tried:

init(){
IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler('onLoad',setreadonly)
}

function setreadonly(){
alert("Form Loaded");
var newitem=IWDatacapture.getItem('/Catalog/AccyCat');
newitem.setReadOnly(true);
IWDatacapture.redraw();
}

I am certain it is something stupid.

As you know, you don't need to do the redraw any more. But, let me ask the same question I asked above, are you using rowcontinue=t anywhere in the row you are trying to do the setReadOnly? If so, you can't. Or are you maybe trying to do it on a container? I know setReadOnly did not work on containers at some point, if you're on the latest SP, you should be ok though.

nipper

No rowcontinue=t

I am in a container, but I properly change the field to RO later, but I want ot do it in the beginning.

Basically, user enters in a part number, the DCT grabs some data from other places and populates
a few fields. Those fields are not to be changed by the user, under penalty of a lecture from Ghoti.

Could not do this with a field defined as: <readonly/>, so I wanted to set it to RO as soon as the DCR opens.

The onLoad handler should work - but:
(a) you shouldn't just call init(); you should use: IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler("onFormInit", init)
(b) you say you're trying to do this on an item within a container but your getItem() call does not seem to indicate anything about a container instance (e.g. [0], [1], etc.)

If your container is a replicant and you're using 6.5 you can add handlers for when instances of the replicant are added and have them call a similar routine (which will be passed the actual container item as a parameter) and use that to set the field in the new replicant to readonly as well.

I will post my complete code.

Yes the item is in a container, but no replicants (this will be added later). So the container is useless now.
When a user changes partnumber, I want another field to change and then be made readonly. That works.

I also want to prevent the user from changing that field so I try onLoad to change it to readonly, that is not
working. Strange but I do not see my alert saying the form is loaded.

Is there an onLoad event? I think you want to change two lines. Change:

IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler('onLoad',setreadonly);

To:

setreadonly();

And then change:

init();

To what Adam said in his post:

IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler("onFormInit", init);

That should get you going.

Last I checked onLoad wasn't a supported handler... Why can't you call setreadonly() directly from your init()? Maybe I'm missing something, but don't think you need to register the function to the onload event.

But if you do, try :

window.onload = setreadonly;

Instead of

IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler('onLoad',setreadonly);

nipper

Works, thanks

I was using some old examples that show just exec init() in the script area. Also
the examples use onLoad event, but it was not working for me.
