modify EA's during a targetTeamsite deploy

While doing a targetTeamside deploy with applyExtAttrs="yes", is it possible to modify EA values at the target? Or, would this have to be done via DNR? I would want to perform simple substitutions such as:

Source EA Value:
TeamSite/Metadata/area-path: /default/main/www.sun.com/web_site/en/bar

Target EA Value:
TeamSite/Metadata/area-path: /default/main/www.sun.com/web_site/en/foo
