Does DFC transfer files securely?

From the documentation on DFC that I have read, I do not recall any mentions of whether files are transferred securely using DFC.  Does anyone know for sure if file transfers by way of DFC is secure?  If transferring files using DFC is indeed not secure, then even if I encrypt DFS traffice with SSL, the trip from a distributed DFS to the CS will not be secure as well .  My plan originally was to use DFC to transfer large files and DFS for smaller files.

You can turn on secure transport at the dfc level, but it is a decision to be made. See the dfc.properties setting dfc.session.secure_connect_default
