Migrate content from one repository to another

Hi I am busy writing an application to migrate certain content from one repository to another.

I am doing this in C# at the moment. Has anyone done this before? I can copy within the repository no problem. The other question is then pointing to the second repository. i.e. different dfc.properties.

Hi, I managed to get this solved by just editing the dfc.properties file and adding another docbroker. I also rebuild the application in Java.

I have few questions before i can answer to you .

1- is the repository ID are same on both ?

2- did you move the DB from one repository to another with different repository id ?

Hi,

To answer your questions no. I am migrating some content from an Old repository Documentum 6. to a new one xCP 6.7. We are only moving a select few custom object types based on dm_document. and I am mapping them to a new object type on the new instance. That should not be a problem.

I would like to know 2 things

1. What would be the recommended method?

2. How do I get hold of the second repository. I know it looks at the dfc.properties file on the machine I am doing the development on and I suppose you could add another host? but how do I access this.

Currently my thought plan is. myDoc.getFile("c:\Temp\" + myDoc.getObjectName()) which stores the file temporarely on my file store until i create it in the new repository with the attributes. (This may not be the best way)

Any help would be great

You can create two sessions , one from source content server and another to destination content server.

Change this code to c# or use java if you like

There are numerous resources on the EDN that address this topic including this one https://community.emc.com/docs/DOC-1713 that might give you some ideas. Unless your migration is very straightforward, you might want to consider an ETL tool. There are several open source ETL tools designed to work with Documentum.
