Phrase search in Xplore 1.1

Hi All,

I conducted a search test on FAST with the following results.

Searched 'deuce' got 3 results; searched 'tennis' got 5 results. All these search items are unique to each documents. While I searched for 'deuce tennis', it gave 3+5 =8 results. It does an 'OR' between these search items.

i condcuted the same search test against Xplore and got the following results

Searched 'deuce' got 3 results; searched 'tennis' got 5 results. All these search items are unique to each documents. While I searched for 'deuce tennis', it gave 0 results. It seems to do an 'AND' between these search items and provides results only if these terms are available in the same document.

Is there a way to configure Xplore tp mimic FAST's 'OR' operator. I need xplore to display results of documents that has 'deuce' and documents that has 'tennis' and those that have both these terms in it.

I appreciate all inputs.

Assuming you are using DFC Search Service (which is the case if you are using Webtop or DFS search Service), you can type: deuce or tennis

I am using DA to conduct my searches. I was able to get 8 results by typing 'deuce or tennis'.. Thanks...

I have a new question.. If I use 'or' between two search terms, does that mean it overrides the' and' that xplore ususally uses? Is it the way xplore is built.. This is really interesting . I was wondering if there is any way/configuration possible to set xplore to use 'OR' as default between two terms rather than 'AND'.

Actually, the DFC Search Service (which DA use too) supports a mini-language for full-text term. So you can have: foo or (bar and "a phrase"). And in this mini-language, a space means 'and'.

There is a description in the documentation (the exact referenc evades me).

It is interesting that the native query is DQL. By default it should be an XQuery statement. Did you configure something special in dfc.properties ?

You cannot configure it but it can be customized. If you use 6.7, you can plug a 'dfc search filter'. If this is the version you use, let me know, I can write it, that would be a nice example for EDN.

If you don't use 6.7, you can still do Webtop customization by extending the search component.
