FormsBuilder: Using a selected value in another query

HI Tord ,

I have a requirement where i need capture selected value from a drop down list .

1. Drop down list populated with datasource adaptor .

2.User selects one value from the dropdown list .

3. The selected value suhould be captured and used in other query .

Is it possible to achieve through Echo xcelerator.?

If not is there any other way to capture list value that is selected .

Hi,

Konstantin in right, you can do this OOTB, see this pattern for an example: Creating Dependent Drop-Down Lists (https://community.emc.com/docs/DOC-8687). Which uses the value from one drop down to filter another.

And Konstantin is also right in that you should try to create a new discussion instead of reusing an old one. And also you should mark your question as answered so that people who browse the forums can find stuff easier. I branched off this question into a new thread for you.

I want only the value selected in the first dropdown .

Suppose when user selects 'System' from the Cabinet dropdown list .

I want to get only the value user selected in the first dropdown like ('System') so that i can build the query like select * from dm_document where object_name='System'

I'm probably not understanding what you want to do, since it seems as if the page I linked to does just that? I.e. the selected value in one drop down is used to as input to another adaptor. Is this not what you want?

I have onle one drop down . I need to capture the only value that is selected in this dropdown .

Using this selected value i will form a query .(i.e selected value is input to my query which return diffrent result )

I dont want to populate the other dropdown based on this dropdown .

How do you plan to execute the query?
What do you mean "return different result"? Return where?
What are you going to do with the result of the query?

Ok .

I have Document Search form with Dropdown 'Category' with 10 values populated by datasource adaptor.

Based on the value selected the Document search will display results in Document search form .(For this ,query in the search to be modified to take selected value from Dropdown in the where clause )

To achieve the above requirement I need to get the selected value from the drop down and pass to my Search query .

Please see the attached screen .

As In the screen i tried to copy the selected value from the first drop down 'Cat' and set to text field 'Val' so that i can get the selected value from the text field ti my query .

Hi Srini,

This is a standard feature.

1. Create a new search form.

2. Add a data item of type string.

3. Bind that data item to the drop down list.

4. And use the data item in the query.

And that's it.

Was that what you where after?

I have created search form as explained by you .

But after selecting the dropdown value the value is not getting set in the text field and the searc is giving wrong result.

See the attached screens .

Is there anything am missing in the configuration .

For dropdown am using dql adaptor( datasource ).

Hi Srini,

The problem is that now you have 2 controls bound to the same data item. Remove the textfield and use only the drop down and you should be fine.
