Procedure to migrate all inbox task lists from one repository to another repository

Hi All,

I have a requirement to migrate all inbox tasks lists from one docbase to another. Target docbase also have the same data as source database. Like :users, workflows, acls and attachments. could you please proivde the better solution to achieve this requirement

Hi,

You will need use fo this the Documentum Composer.

Composer provides tools for packaging and deploying Taskspace applications or xCP artifacts. xCP artifacts are: forms templates, process templates, acls, objects types, etc.

You can download Composer User Guide from Powerlink or use xCP Information Center.

Hi,

Composer cannot "migrate" workflow artifacts, only process templates. Inbox tasks are related to workflow instances, so they cannot be without each other.

You would need to start workflows in the target docbase on the correct documents, complete the tasks on the workflow tasks to be in the same state as it was in the source docbase. Not to mention that you will lose the tracking informations like who and when completed/rejected the tasks on which documents.

So even if you have so much time to write a tool for this, the target docbase will not contain every information - of course this may not be a business need.

It's really a complex thing to do, I would not be able to write it down in 5 minutes. But you can look after it from documentations:

- how to start a workflow

- how to complete a workitem

- how can you query which are the running workflows

- how can you query which is the current workitem (where is the workflow actually)

The complexity of this tool of course depends on how complex is your workflow definition.

I doubt it you can do it with dump and load or with third party tools. As long as I know the architecture of the workflows ("process - workflow - queue item - workitem - package - sysobject" and maybe more), the items are in a very complex relationship. But to be honest, never tried.
