Hi All,

I want to delete a folder and its contents.

Is it possible through DQL/API/DFC?

My folder structure is like below..

FolderA

FolderB

TestDocument (version 1 nd version 2)

Now I want to delete the FolderA.

I know that I can delete an empty folder through DQL.

So is it any DFC there so that I can delete the folder with contents.

Can anybody tell me that how can I achive this one.

You should add only the main folder that you want to delete, i.e: /devuser/test_sunita5, but it seems that you are adding every content that exists inside the folder structure.

Try this instead of doing a query:

IDfFolder folder = (IDfFolder) session.getObjectByPath("/devuser/test_sunita5");

and add just this folder (the object returned) to the operation, it will be deleted along with its content.

To check what's wrong with your delete operation you should always use Wei Zhou's code in the operation execution:

System.out.print("Deleted");

}else{

System.out.print("Failed");

IDfList errors = deleteOpt.getErrors();

IDfOperationError error = (IDfOperationError)errors.get(0);

The easier way is probably by DFC using IDfDeleteOperation, you can add a folder to it and set

enableDeepDeleteFolderChildren(true), this will delete all subfolders and children documents. I think that's the way they do it on Webtop/DA to do cascade deletion.

Please check also the methods setDeepFolders and setVersionDeletionPolicy to do what you really need.

Ricardo, I thought about using DQL, but I think he could get an error if Documentum tries to delete the folders before the documents, also, the folder '/FolderA' will not be deleted, since the FOLDER clause will return only the folder contents and not the folder itself.

Via DQL not have problem to delete the folders before the documents, but the problem can happens if exists the document in checkout.

You have reason when talk about the FolderA not be deleted.

When I tried to delete through DQL, as given in above then I am getting the following error.

DQL:

delete dm_sysobject(all) objects where FOLDER('/devuser/test_sunita3',DESCEND);

ERROR:

Error occured during query execution :[DM_QUERY_F_UP_DESTROY]fatal: "DELETE: An error has occurred during a destroy operation."

Now I am trying to do through DFC provided by Imran.

I will let all know, If it works.

By using this DFC, I am able to delete only empty folders. I am not able to delete the folders which have Documents.

My requirement is that I want to delete the folder which contains document (For example test.doc)

I am not getting any error message, because the below logic is right for deleting empty folders.

But if I am trying to delete the Folder with contents (for example FolderA contains test.doc document) then the below logic is not working.

From catch block, I got the below error message.

java.lang.ClassCastException: com.documentum.fc.client.DfDocument___PROXY cannot be cast to com.documentum.fc.client.IDfFolder

at com.pwc.ITService.createitservice.DocbaseConnDelete.deleteCreateSolutionTemplate(DocbaseConnDelete.java:72)

at com.pwc.ITService.createitservice.DocbaseConnDelete.main(DocbaseConnDelete.java:35)

DocbaseConnDelete.java:Line 72 is IDfFolder myfolder =(IDfFolder)session.getObject(new DfId(rObjectID));

You're getting a ClassCastException because you're trying to get an IDfDocument in your session.getObject() and put it into a folder class. Try using IDfPersistentObject instead of IDfFolder.

About cascade deletion of folder contents, you should use the method I wrote in the first answer:

delo.enableDeepDeleteFolderChildren(true);

if you want to delete all versions you should also set:

delo.setVersionDeletionPolicy(IDfDeleteOperation.ALL_VERSIONS);

The problem was one of the document has not delete permission.
