Custom button in VFE

Hi there,

I want to have a custom button in VFE. When I click on this button, I want to invoke a perl script and pass content in the VFE as parameter to the perl script.

I've been able to create the custom button by modifying the config files (xml and the ewebeditproevents.js).

Can you please help me with how I can pass the content in the field (value of the VFE field in DCT) to the perl script that's being invoked.

Please post code snippets if you can.

The code for the custom event needs to be in javascript. If you absolutely have to have it be a perl script for some reason, or if you need to interact with data that is only available on the server (say a config file or a database), you will need to have your javascript eventhandler make a call to a CGI on the teamsite server.

I have some code snippets, but it will take me awhile to dig them up. One of the things you are going to run into is that the documented process doesn't quite work. For some reason if you put your event handlers in a custom.js file and try to load it, they will be ignored. Instead you have to modify ewebeditproevents.js to get it to pickup the handler. There are a couple of different ways to register it. What I went with was:

     eWebEditPro.openDialog(sEditorName, "/iw/project/objectbrowser.htm", "", "HyperlinkList", "width=400,height=170");

   }

The objectbrowser.htm file referred to above just wraps the Interwoven file browser and pastes the value back into the VFE with the pasteHTML() function:
