DQL Write activity does not work with ?

Hi All,

I have many workflows where I use dql write activty for writing some data into repository.

The data is entered by users from a task form and then I store them in a process variable and then write it to docbase.

The problem is that if a user writes "?" sign the activty does not work.It recognizes it as another parameter.

For example if my query is.

update dm_document object set set_subject='?' where r_object_id='?'

and the user types "What?" then the activity throws an error.

Please help.

In DQL Outbound activities, when one or more parameter and param values have a "?" character, then the DQL Query is incorrectly substituted.

I haven't looked at patches for 6.7 version.

Hi Imran,

Does your query contains the sinle quites around input parameters? If yes, please, remove them, they are needn't. So your query must be like this:

UPDATE dm_document OBJECTS SET object_name=? WHERE r_object_id=?

I just right now checked this query in my system (version 6.6). Both debug in Process Builder and runtime are worked correctly - I have updated object_name with 'how are you?' string.

UPDATE mb_qeyd_razilashdirilma OBJECT  SET razilashdirilma='Razı deyiləm' SET sebeb=? SET  bitme_tarixi=? SET status=1 where r_object_id=?

And here is the query generated by the activity after passing the arguments.

And this are the parameters. "razi deyil?","DATE('09/24/2011 11:59:35', 'mm/dd/yyyy hh:mi:ss')"-this is task creation date,and r_object_id of the document.

UPDATE mb_qeyd_razilashdirilma OBJECT  SET razilashdirilma='Razￄﾱ deyil￉ﾙm' SET sebeb='razi deyilDATE('09/24/2011 11:59:35', 'mm/dd/yyyy hh:mi:ss')' SET  bitme_tarixi='0900000c80092516' SET status=1 where r_object_id=?

The parameters are moved to left due to ? sign.So it is trying to assign "bitme_tarixi" which is a date to "sebeb" field too.

I have tried without this single quoted parameter as well "SET razilashdirilma='Razￄﾱ deyil￉ﾙm'" but no luck.

UPDATE mb_qeyd_razilashdirilma OBJECT  SET sebeb=? SET  bitme_tarixi=? SET status=1 where r_object_id=?

Can you try with a similar query in your environment?Maybe the date parameter causes to the problem? In my case "mb_qeyd_razilashdirilma" is a custom type and "bitme_tarixi" is a date field.

As I can see, there a few problems with query.

1. The DQL Write (and DQL Read I think) activity does not support UTF-8, so you cann't use 'Razı deyiləm' value inside activity (as hardcoded value). If you save it as a process value or process value you will be able to set the razilashdirilma attribute with this value.

At least, it works for me:

1. The process

2. Dql update

Input mapping

3. Dql read and debug

In runtime I got the same result.

2. It is not quite clear for me, what do you whant to get with this:

sebeb='razi deyilDATE('09/24/2011 11:59:35', 'mm/dd/yyyy hh:mi:ss')'

What type of the 'sebeb' attibute?

If you want to concatenate some string and date, you should transform date to string before and only after that concatenate. Please, give some more details.

3. If bitme_tarixi has the date type you should write there a date not a string. Something like this:

SET a_expiration_date=DATE('09/24/2011 11:55:35', 'mm/dd/yyyy hh:mi:ss')

Thank you for your reply.I have tried writing "Razi deyiləm" from a process variable.But it did not work again.

Even I have replaced "Razi deyiləm" with "Test" but not worked again.

This is the error.

java.lang.Exception: java.lang.RuntimeException: Could not execute the query

As you can see there are no UTF-8 characters so I think it is not related to UTF-8.

So my query should look like to this.

SET sebeb='What' SET bitme_tarixi=DATE('09/24/2011 11:59:35', 'mm/dd/yyyy hh:mi:ss')

It works fine when I pass "Test" to sebeb instead of "what?"

For "Test" the query is:

 SET sebeb='Test' SET bitme_tarixi=DATE('09/24/2011 11:59:35', 'mm/dd/yyyy hh:mi:ss')

For "What?" the activity concatinates this two parameters and trys to write them to one:

It replaces the ? sign with the next parameter.

Strange, it is works fine in my environment.

I am working in 6.6, in a few minute I can check this in 6.7. Which version you have?

Thank you for your reply.Our environment is 6.6 too.Have you tried with multiple parameters?Maybe it works fine for you because you have only one parameter.Can you check if that query works.

update dm_sysobject object set title=? set subject=? where r_object_id=?

and pass "What?" as a parameter for title.I think in this case it will concatenate the title parameter and subject parameter and assign it to title then r_object_id parameter will be assigned to subject and nothing will be assigned to r_object_id.

This is how it behaves in our environment.Please give me a feedback if you test it.

I have not fond any registered bug (or my search parameters were wrong ). Seems you should open a servie request to Support.

BTW,

if you place 'SET sebeb=?' at the last position (just before 'where' expression) the querry will works... at least some time, while the '?' will not appear in other dql input paramters.

Still find it strange how bad the team of developers testers working with this product

But I will not be able to go on with this because I have to write r_object_id after the where clause.So I will open a service request and report the bugg and will post the results as soon as I get a response from support.I guess I will have to write a custom dql write activity.I did not like this stuff from the begining because it does not allow insert queries too.But I am really out of time.

Have you try the xDQLUtils xcelerator? it allow to pass a generated DQL. and it work fine to me with your query.

No I have not tried it, actually I have created a new service request and reported the problem to support.Now I am waiting their response.But I will try xDQLUtility tomorrow , hope it will help.
