Hi Experts,
Do I need an indexing server if I install federated search services?Or these tow work together ?
If there are Accepted Answers, those will be shown by default. You can switch to 'All Replies' by selecting the tab below.
Grouping of the results is also provided with Webtop Extended Search. FS2 was designed to allow you to search external content/systems.
I believe FSS "outsources" the search to your other systems and aggregates and displays the joined results in webtop. If you want your local repository contents to be included in the search results, you will still need index server. Net-net: I dont think you need Index Server specifically to support FSS.
Thank you very much, I have just started learning about FS2.And I though it also includes full text indexing server inside.
Index Server is included as part of the Content Server. Whether you want to install it or not is up to you. I dont think you need to install it if you plan to only search content that exists outside of the repository.
No actually I will search contents inside the repository. But FS2 offers some features such as grouping the results.I want this features were available in our system too.
Hi,
I see. There is webtop extended search also there is a Webtop Federated Search too.But I am using this xcelerator https://community.emc.com/docs/DOC-6937, with taskspce no webtop. We have webtop license too but I don't know if it includes "Webtop Federated Search".They say grouping will be available if I install Webtop Federated Search services.
Ask your EMC Sales Rep.
Yes, the names of the options are pretty confusing. Webtop Extended Search was renamed Webtop Federated Search (though it is not required for Federated searches !!). So it is the same option, and you need it for what we call clustering or smart navigation (grouping of results).
Federated Search Services (FS2) is used to search external sources and build a consistent result set with results from different sources.
The xCelerator supports both clustering of results and federated searches.

Annette
