fail over or Load balancing

Hi all,

To achive failure over for the documentum content servers.

Please correct me if any thing wrong in the below steps and answer the 2 questions

1) Installing c.s1,docbroker1 & repository1 ( Server 1 --> C.S1 --> Docbroker1 --> Repository1 )

2) Installing c.s2,docbroker2 (Server2 --> C.S 2--> Docbroker2)

Question : i have to install the Repositry under Docbroker2 ? (same like Docbroker1)

3) Excute the script (dm_launch_cfs_server_config_program.sh) in C.S2

Question : what is the hostname of the primary connection broker for the repository ? (installing in unix server)

4) add the targeted server detaisl in the server.ini and dmcl.ini files in both servers

5) restart the 2 docbrokers( docbroker1 and docbroker2)

6) Finish ( test the fail over)

Please advice....

Because you have two physical servers, with two instances of CS and one repository...in order to provide failover and load balancing for this....you WDK Application (Webtop, DA, Taskspace) needs to connect to both instances...if one fails.

For this, you need to add in dfc.properties the connection parameters for both docbrokers

host[0]=server1

port[0]=1489

host[1]=server2

port[1]=1489

search_order=random

this will provide failover. if one instance of cs fails, the wdk application will connect to the other one.

docbroker1 -> CS1 \

Hello,

Steps for failover (load balancing):

1. Install CS1 + Docbroker + Docbase on server1

2. Install with CFS CS2 + Docbroker on server2 (choose Use Existing Repository to install second instance of CS)

3. Modify both server.ini files, in order to point to both Docbrokers

Server1

projection target 1 -> docbroker 1 (with proximity 1)

projection target 2 -> docbroker 2 (with proximity 1)

Server2

projection target 1 -> docbroker 2 (with proximity 1)

projection target 2 -> docbroker 1 (with proximity 1)

4. Modify dfc.properties from WDK Application to point to both docbrokers (host1, host2 and search_order=random)

5. Verify both dm_server_config objects, services, logs

6. Test failover

Install with CFS CS2 means --- install CS2 and install CFS using this script dm_launch_cfs_server_config_program.sh?

from the above steps , i am understood like no need to isntall the Docbase in server2.. is that right?

Yes indeed.

You have to install CS2 binaries, and tun cfs_server_config_program.sh, in order to create second instance of repository service.

You don't need to create another docbase in server2, just set "Use existing repository", select existing repo and follow the steps.

The important thing is server.ini configuration for failover on docbroker side.

i am able to understand the changes in server.ini and dmcl.ini... not sure about the dfc.properties chagnes, can explain what needs to be change.

one last question..

we can use this way for the failover ?

Hello,

It is not correct, because you have two different repositories with different content inside.

If a document is being created inside docbase1, and CS1 instance fails....users that will connect to the second instance (CS1 and docbase2) will not see that specific document.
