Location of server error Log

Hi ALL,

I have an IPL file which i have kept inside httpd/iw-bin which is working fine.

I created a new IPL file with different name and i copy pasted content of above file and iam calling from the location where i called first IPL file its giving error saying some misconfiguration occured go and check server error Log, when i replace it again with first file it works fine.

My question is what might be the problem for this and where can i find server error Log to trace the problem.

My Environment is :

TS - 6.5 on SUNSOLARIS 8.

There is no permission probelm, I have given full permission for newly created file.

And i searched for .log files inside iw-home/httpd i did not find any .log files inside that.

Hi Sanjeev,
What is the locaion of new IPL file ? Is this again httpd/iw-bin or someting else ?
Are you able to run the ipl from command line ?
Whats the error message in error.log ?
Try to use CGI::carp it will give clear error message

Iam asking same issue that is location of error.log or server.log to trap error inside sunsolaris 8 ts 6.5.

Yes, i kept new ipl in same location as old IPL.

No, iam not running from command prompt.

Error Displayed inside browser is :
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

And iam asking where can i find last line info.

Check the location where is your Webserver ( Apache/IIS) is installed on your machine. If Apache then go to Apache/logs and there u will see error.log file and you can see the error messages in that file
or as I mentioned earlier use CGI::carp it will print the error messages in the GUI screen. So you donot require to go for error.log file

To be a bit more precise with jkm's advice- add the following to the code:

use CGI::Carp qw(fatalsToBrowser);

This will cause fatal error messages to be sent to the browser window (and the log) - so you don't have to figure out where the log is.
The log could be any number of places - try running the following command from the command line:

find /data/software/iw/iw-home -name "*log" -type f | xargs /bin/ls -lrt

That should show you the locations of all the log files within IWHOME - and sort it such that the most recently changed ones will appear at the bottom of the list - so one of the logs listed at the bottom of the list will probably be the logfile you are looking for.

I added that line it is not displaing errors to browser.

When i check the Log file it is saying :

Sounds like a problem exec'ing the perl engine.
What does: /bin/ls -l /data/software/iw/iw-home/iw-perl/bin/iwperl show?
What does: file /data/software/iw/iw-home/iw-perl/bin/iwperl show?

This basically means that something generated output to STDOUT (and/or possibly STDERR) before the Content-Type header was processed - which, now that I look at your posted code again - is an accurate error. Before you start printing out HTML text - you need to have:print "Content-type: text/html\n\n";(note: the double-newline is required)

It's possible the second error was causing the first - but I'd still be interested in seeing the output for those commands.

And, Even i Added print "Content-type: text/html\n\n"; this to my file.

And Above code is working code Under Another file Name, i just duplicated same code in this new file upload.ipl, it seems very strange to me.

Open the ipl up in VI (really use VI, not another editor)

Do you see ^M characters at the end of the lines ? I have seen
those mess up the shebang line in perl

do not know if you tried, what happens if you run the script from
the command line (not invoking with iwperl) ?

Thanks Fish!! Even with vi 'filename' I was not able to see the ^M at the end of the line. My scripts were failing continuously.

print qq(content-type: text/html\n\n);

That will fix at least the second errors you saw in the log file

For the first error (assuming the above doesn't fix that too), can you tell us exactly how this script is being invoked? I.e. the actual code or configuration file that references upload.ipl.
