rotatelog command

Hi,
For rotating log files like iwevents.log, iwtrace.log etc, can't we use rotatelogs command that comes with apache? Its location is iw-home/iw-webd/bin/rotatelogs. I went through the forum but most of them suggest stopping the server and then rolling the logs. Am I missing some thing here?

iw-home/iw-webd/bin/rotatelogs is to rotate the iw-webd/Apache logs.

iwevents.log, iwtrace.log, etc are TeamSite logs, Apache/iw-webd does not create or write to these logs

That makes sense. Thank you. So based on the other threads in the forum I am going to write a cron script that basically:
[INDENT]Stops Teamsite.
Renames the log files.
Starts Teamsite.
[/INDENT]
If any one has better ideas, please let me know.

Feel free to contact supportadmin@interwoven.com about it - however, the reason why some KB articles have restricted access is because the KB is (or was) intended to be used to store both internal and public articles - and if you're not an Interwoven employee, you are only supposed to see the public articles. Some of the articles may be mis-classified, or may be reasonable to re-review and perhaps make them available publicly - this might be such a case.

I don't know if the same as what is referred to in the last post.

Can the CLT iwatserver be used to trigger log file rotation? What do you think about running a script on the iwatserver Shutdown event to rotate the files. I believe it would work as log as log as the server was down long enough for the script to terminate.

We actually put a line that calls a rotation script as the first thing in our iwserver start script which works great on TS 4.5 Smiley Tongue

. I am think about doing that in TS 6.7.1 SP in an rc.d script.

I'm using Linux's logrotate. It's in SOlaris now as well, as far as I know. If Solaris is too old, there are some free ports of this command.
