How to call DFS Client from a seperate application

Hi All,

I have implemented an dfs custom service and a client to consume this service let say objectService and Client . My client is sucessfully able to call the service. Now I want my client and server should place in same server and I would make a call to the client from a seperate application .

Is any one aware how could we achive this functionality ??

Hi All,

I have implemented this scenario by putting my dfs client in a servlet and deployed this servlet on server . Now any external application can call my dfs client and communication between client and server will be local so it reduce cost.

I think we might need a little more information about the architecture.

You have, from what I can see,

A DFS custom service

A custom client (Java or .NET) to consume this service

Now you want another 'client' to talk to the custom client?

Is that what you have? If so if the custom client also a web service interface?

I have an custom service and a java client who are hosted on same server. Now I want to call this java client from some other application to access my custom service. I do not want to directly call the service because I want the local call in between client and server. My java client is simple dfs client and third party application is struts base action class from which I call the dfs client.

Now are u clear about my requirnment ?

Why can the struts app not call the DFS web service directly

I guess you could do a shell execute to your java class.

This is the requirnment which I have to implement as i explain earlear i want to make a local call in between client and server . So I have to call the client not server directly.

Could you not call via localhost?

Alternatively if the custom DFS service is available you can use the standard DFS local call semantics,

i.e.

use ServiceFactory.getInstance().getLocalService(...) in preference to getRemoteService(...)

This way you hve the 'service' as a standard set of packaged Java classes.

Andy is right. If DFS client and server are hosted in the same machine, there is no reason to call web service. DFS local service is what you need, and it is easy to switch from local service to remote service, if you want to make it flexible.

I need to call Documentum services from a Third party java web application where I have a middle ware in between. So user will send query to middle ware and middle ware call the Documentum web service. Could you kindly help me on achieving this ?

Also kindly share some sample programs to call Documentum services.
