view repository content in a third-party viewer

Hey Folks

I am not a DFS expert, but recently ran into a interesting requirement.

All PDF content is going to be in a Documentum repository (D6.6 or D6.7)

This is a scanned pdf content, which will be organized in some folder structure with few attributes to uniquely identify it.

There a another third -party (let's call it application application which will most of business specific meta-data.

Application B wants simply identify the repository content (perhaps DFS query service), to locate it.

Once identified, show the PDF content in it's own viewer.

There are some other complex use cases, but for the sake of discussion, let's consider the view content use case.

Has anybody done this using DFS services? if so what were some challenges?

To be honest, I find it extremely frightening that an EMC employee would publicly ask this kind of question. I understand one have to start somewhere but I'd expect there are enough knowledgeable resources in-house to get an answer.

To answer your question, easy peasy. You can develop a small DFS app that will log in, search for the document, get its content and do with it whatever needs to be done. No real traps in here

Go with what Francois says. The viewing is nothing to do with actually getting the content and that is just a facility to be offered by the application calling the service.
