Email Importer

All,

I am looking to develop code that monitors a custom folder attribute that contains an email address. I need to develop a Inbound Email Listener that monitors addresses, searches Documentum for a match in the Custom Folder attribute and then ingests the email and attachment in as a pre-defined type. I thought about using BPS, but the Inbound Email Activity would cause hundreds of active emails, and all we want to do is ingest without any user tasks or intevention.

Any hints, sample code or direction would help.

What about the Inbound Email activity would cause the hundreds of active emails? My understanding of this is that it would poll a mail system and if it finds a match it will import it and start a workflow, and you can define the steps of that workflow such that there are no interactive tasks required.

Meaning, we have no use for kicking off a process because there is no workflow component. Looking for other options, like having a method that runs every xx minutes for example.

Still not sure I understand the issue with BPS, but a simple Java method can be created that uses the JavaMail API to access the requisite email account(s) and this can then be put into a job such that it runs every 'x' minutes and does what it needs to.

Just becuase there is not 'real' workflow does not mean that BPS cannot be used for an entirely background process where the inbound tasks does the polling of the email accounts and once it finds something to deal with it will step through a purely internal, non-interactive process to take the email content, parse it and file it.
